Mama June: Family Crisis celeb June Shannon and family are temporarily off-air. However, they will return soon for the most emotional episodes yet on the WEtv reality series.
Mama June: Family Crisis – June Shannon Returns as Anna’s Heartbreaking Story Concludes
Coming up this June, Mama June: Family Crisis will be back with new episodes. The main focus will be on Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell‘s tragic battle with Stage 4 Adrenal Carcinoma.
Most fans know that in real-time, Anna passed away on December 9, 2023. She leaves behind her husband, Eldridge Toney, and two young daughters, Kaitlyn Elizabeth and Kylee Madison.
Last we saw Anna, she was doing fairly well and staying positive. She joined the family in saying goodbye to her little sister, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson as she left for college. But, soon on Mama June: Family Crisis, Anna takes a turn for the worst.
When the Shannon ladies return, we will see them struggle to cope as the disease progresses. The remainder of the season is sure to break our hearts as we watch Anna’s final days. No doubt, it will hit June Shannon especially hard.
Mama Facing Ultimatum on WEtv
Meanwhile, Mama’s marriage to Justin Stroud is in jeopardy because of the Coogan account situation with Alana. At the end of the last episode, Justin tells her if she doesn’t take $30,000 from their savings and give it to Alana, he’s leaving her. So, she’ll have to decide if she’s willing to cough up the cash or risk losing her husband and her daughter.
Will Alana Ever Forgive Mama on Mama June: Family Crisis?
When new episodes return, Mama faces a tough decision. Alana and her sister, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon Efird won’t rest until they get the missing money from Mama. If she does not agree to hand it over, they’ll take more drastic measures.
Alana is not afraid to go after her mother legally and put her in jail if need be. However, if she’s forced to go that route, she’ll likely never forgive her mother. Neither will Pumpkin and the rest of the family may also turn on her.
So, she might also shun June. Indeed, Mama could lose everyone in her life if she doesn’t just fork over the money. Things are drastically intensifying for the Shannons. Tune in this June to see June Shannon and her girls back in action on the WEtv reality show.
Mama June: Family Crisis celeb June Shannon and her brood are taking a short break. However, they’ll be back soon to share the rest of their journey with the loyal fans of the WEtv reality spin-off.
Mama June: Family Crisis – June Shannon Pushes Alana & Pumpkin Too Far
This is the money she earned during her childhood days as a reality TV star. Mama admitted to using the money for family expenses as well as their home and vacations. But that’s not what the money was for, and Alana is furious.
In addition, her sister, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon Efird, is also livid. Recently, she did some digging and found out exactly how much money Alana is missing. And she put Mama on blast.
She has shorted Alana $35,000 on Mama June: Family Crisis. Indeed, that could pay for two semesters of Alana’s college education. So, she wants the money back and she’s not afraid to take her to court. But, Mama’s husband, Justin Stroud, is taking a different approach.
Justin Done with Mama on WEtv
Justin is appalled by Mama’s actions and mostly by her lies. His sobriety and June’s sobriety are very important to him and they cannot maintain it without honesty. Furthermore, he wants her to do right by her daughter.
So, if she does not return the money, their marriage is over. Perhaps, Mama doesn’t think he’s serious, but he appears to be. The Mama June: Family Crisis brood are on a small break. But, they’ll come back on the air this June, and many things are changing.
Mama June: Family Crisis Stars Return in June
Currently, there is a pause in new episodes ofMama June: Family Crisis. The reality series is on a little break and picking back up in June. Last we saw the Shannon ladies, Alana was determined to get the $35,000 Mama owes her.
And Justin was as adamant as Alana. His ultimatum stands — if she won’t pay Alana back, he walks out of their marriage. So, when new episodes return, she has a life-changing decision to make on Mama June: Family Crisis.
Furthermore, the latest episodes will focus more on Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell‘s heart-wrenching cancer battle. Viewers know that in real-time, Anna has already passed away. She died on December 9, 2023. Anna lost her battle to cancer and her family is struggling to go on without her.
But when the reality series returns, we will see the remainder of Anna’s journey leading up to her final days. And perhaps, we will get an update on how the family is doing now. Grab the tissues because the upcoming episodes are sure to be tear-jerkers.
The drama is still far from over. June Shannon will return with her crew for the most dramatic and heartbreaking episodes yet on the WEtv reality show. Don’t miss a minute.
But there was a time when this was Mama June: From Not to Hot. It was a makeover show, documenting June’s surgical weight loss.
June has since regained more than 100 pounds. And now she’s trying something new, inviting followers to join her on her “semaglutide journey.”
Mama June Shannon is using Ozempic or Wegovy
The WEtv star took to Instagram on Tuesday, April 16 to share a video in which she received a semaglutide dose.
Ozempic and Wegovy are the brand names for semaglutide injections. This diabetes medicine has, in recent years, taken on the controversial use of luxury weight loss.
“Come along with me as I go through this journey,” June invited in her Instagram caption alongside the video.
“I know a lot of y’all are on similar journeys,” June suggested. Some of her followers hope to receive insights into weight loss methods based upon June’s experiences. “So let’s do it together.”
She wrote: “Tell me what your experiences are pros and cons and everything.”
June told her followers: “I will be updating every week how things are going as I know I’m not the only person that has struggled since having a bariatric surgery.”
Mama June’s weight loss journey has had its ups and downs, and began many years before she turned to this polarizing medication for answers. In 2015, she weighed about 550 pounds.
As Mama June: From Not to Hot documented for WEtv viewers, June underwent gastric sleeve surgery. This invasive procedure physically restricted the size of her stomach, forcing her into a dramatic caloric deficit.
June dropped to 311 pounds. Over time, she dropped all of the way to 130 pounds. Diet and exercise continued to play a role … which is how June’s worsening health, her drug-fueled downward spiral, and her body’s natural attempt to store energy eventually led to her regaining a lot of weight.
Mama June has regained a portion of her weight
According to June, Anna Cardwell’s cancer battle and deterioration was a major stresser that contributed to her weight gain.
June described regaining 130 pounds. That is a lot of weight on her very short frame, and she aimed to change that. When traditional weight loss methods did not work, she turned to semaglutide injections.
To her credit, June doesn’t seem to be trying to push this controversial medication on everyone. She is recommending the doctor who’s filling her prescriptions, however.
Use of semaglutides like Ozempic is extremely controversial, in part because of unknown long-term effects on non-diabetes patients. Primarily, however, it’s because the use for luxury weight loss has led to documented shortages of this medication for those who actually need it.
At the same time, we can be grateful that the stress and grief if the past year have not led to Mama June backsliding in other ways. Better Ozempic than another expensive drug-fueled crisis.
Everyone deserves to have the body that they desire. That’s not always feasible in practice, however. Only time will tell if June will meet her body goals.
That reality show title felt especially appropriate this past Friday night.
As previously reported, the woman after whom this series is named has been at the center of a family storm of late because June Shannon has refused to help pay for daughter Alana’s college tuition.
It’s actually worse than that, too.
On a previous installment of Mama June: Family Crisis, the 44-year old revealed that she had taken money from her teenager’s Coogan account — a trust where parents of child stars are legally required to deposit a percentage of their earnings — while discussing Alana’s plans for college in Colorado.
The mother of four claimed in past arguments with her kids that she used some of this cash on Alana to pay for her upkeep over the years.
“Every time that you needed something, clothes or whatever, hair appointments, lash appointments, nail appointments,” the matriarch listed on air, noting her daughter had essentially been paying her own bills since she was 12 years old… just without knowing she was doing so.
“And you’ve been doing a good job of it.”
This explanation didn’t sit well with Alana, of course, who threatened to sue June over the stolen funds.
On the episode that aired on April 12, meanwhile, Mama June sat down with her husband, Justin Shroud, and daughters Lauryn and Alana to straighten out the money that has vanished from the latter’s Coogan account.
For her part, Lauryn was prepared, even standing in front of a whiteboard that depicted her sister’s earning over the years, along with June’s account transactions.
After cross-referencing Alana’s various child star appearances — from back when she was a famous, young beauty pageant contestant — out-of-state taxes and the money Mama June spent… Pumpkin said there is $35,728 missing from Alana’s account.
“Well, you’re not even allowing me to talk,” Mama June said in response to the reveal, asking if the group really expects her to just hand this sum over to Alana.
“If Mama wants to have like a relationship with me she needs to pay me back, because one thing I don’t do, is I don’t hang around no ‘thief’ that gonna steal my money now,” Alana said to the camera in an emotional confessional, adding:
“You was the one who stole it so you need to pay my money back.”
Sure makes sense in our opinion.
That’s a lot of money, enough to pay for for two semesters of Alana’s college education.
Approached with this information, Mama June actually said she doesn’t believe that her youngest daughter will stick it out and therefore doesn’t want to give her tuition money just for her to drop out.
As it should have, such a sentiment set Lauryn off.
“You’re being [a] negative bitch!” Lauryn screamed. “You’re not a supportive mother! … Who cares?!
“It’s investing in your daughter if you lost 10 grand? You lost $500,000 to a bag of f—ing crack, bitch!”
She’s not really in a place to be doling out life advice.
Toward the end of the episode, Shannon told her kids that she doesn’t “tell y’all what to do with you’re money,” prompting Alana to jump in to say nobody is “mad” for her refusal to help with college.
“I don’t even want you to pay for college. I just want my 35 grand back in my account so I can pay for college,” she replied, emphasizing that this is HER money.
We’re guessing this won’t be the final time this season we heard about the uproar over June’s actions.
Mama June: Family Crisis airs Fridays at 9/8c on WE tv.
Mama June: Family Crisis finds Justin Stroud fed up with June Shannon and he issues her a shocking ultimatum in the mid-season finale of the WEtv reality series.
Mama June: Family Crisis – June Shannon Faces Family’s Wrath
Currently, on the hit WEtv show, Mama June Shannon’s family is barely speaking to her. Recently, she told her youngest daughter, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, how much money was in her Coogan account from her time as a child reality star.
The amount is astonishingly low at only 33,000. Indeed, Alana was in shock because she should have a very large savings from all the shows she’s done over the years. Then, Mama said that most of the money was used for family expenses.
Of course, everyone hit the roof on Mama June: Family Crisis because all that money should still be in her account. Now, Alana is going away to college and can’t even afford her tuition. She’s devastated and rightfully blames June. Naturally, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon Efird is livid on her little sister’s behalf.
The two sisters will not rest until Mama gives Alana every penny or they will take her to court. And June’s husband, Justin Stroud, is as angry with her as the rest of the family is. He is on Alana’s side and is stepping up to help.
Justin Stroud Hits His Limit on WEtv
When it all hit the fan at Pumpkin’s house because of Mama’s lies, Justin lost it. He wasn’t even talking to her for a while. He greatly values honesty because it is vital to their sobriety. Without honesty, it’s too easy to slip back into addiction.
Recently, Justin softened toward Mama a little bit because her birthday was coming up. She wants the two of them to go away to Las Vegas for her birthday. So, things seem to be getting a little better. However, on the next episode of Mama June: Family Crisis, things take a turn.
Most likely, this is because Pumpkin and Alana are taking action to get the money back. And it looks like Pumpkin finds out some new shady info on Mama. Soon, Justin goes off and gives Mama an ultimatum.
Justin Threatens to Leave June on Mama June: Family Crisis
In this week’s episode, Justin demands that June withdraw $30,000 of their savings to give to Alana for college. And if she doesn’t do it, he is leaving her. Then Mama asks him if the marriage is already over. Indeed, Justin is not playing games.
He wants her to step up and do what’s right for her daughter or he can’t be with her. He’s tired of June lying and not doing the right thing so he’s taking a stand. No doubt, Alana is in shock on Mama June: Family Crisis.
And she’s likely thankful that her stepdad is going that far to help her. This was the final straw and they’ve all had enough of June’s drama. Alana says she will not have a relationship with her mother unless she pays her back. She’s even willing to put Mama in jail.
Be sure to tune in to the mid-season finale of the WEtv reality spin-off to see if June Shannon accepts Justin’s terms or lets him walk out on their marriage.
Anna Cardwell stopped her cancer treatments in 2023 — treatments featured on Mama June: Family Crisis — and entered hospice before passing away.
“I think she was just over it,” June explained. “She just wanted to spend her last days doing what she wanted to do.”
On December 9, 2023, Anna Cardwell passed away. It had been less than one year since she received her Stage 4 adrenal carcinoma diagnosis. She was only 29 years old.
“It was difficult watching her have to go through chemo,” June expressed.
“Having to go through radiation and having to do immunotherapy,” she recalled. “And then trying to get into hospice long before we actually could.”
Ultimately, Anna Cardwell was done fighting
June characterized Anna as a “feisty one.” Even in her final days, she recalled, it took some doing to get approval for hospice care from her medical team.
“Watching her try to say, ‘OK, I’m done with treatment, I just want to live the rest of my life the way I want to live it,’” June described.
According to her: “They wouldn’t listen.” Not at first, anyway.
“I tell Kaitlyn all the time, ‘I’ll never replace your mother,’” June acknowledged in her recent interview. Very true! “I say this all the time, but Kylee shouldn’t have to be raised by Kylee’s dad. I shouldn’t be raising Kaitlyn.”
She then affirmed: “Anna should be here raising her children. It’s not fair for any of us that Anna’s gone, especially for her children.”
‘Mama June: Family Crisis’ follows Anna Cardwell’s cancer battle
We are certain that it is painful for the family as they relive these moments. Viewers witnessed Anna’s cancer battle for the first time.
But they will one day be grateful that cameras captured so many family moments by which to remember Anna. Her daughters will be grateful for that, too.
It has sadly come to this for June Shannon and her children.
Following years of estrangement, during which the reality star neglected her kids in order to spend time with a shady boyfriend and in order to do a lot of drugs, Shannon appeared to make up with daughters Lauryn and Alana a short time ago.
But such a reconciliation is now over.
And it’s all because Shannon may very well be a thief.
Citing some concept of tough love, June told her youngest on an episode that aired earlier this month:
“If I didn’t give a f-ck about you and I didn’t care about you succeeding and doing the things you want to do, I wouldn’t be saying this.”
We have no idea what sort of parent relays that message or thinks in that kind of way when it comes to assisting with tuition.
But we’re just quoting Mama June here.
Alana said on air that she didn’t expect any help from her selfish parent, but made certain comments that expressed an understandable bitterness.
For example:
“Maybe she thinks that paying for [her husband] Justin’s chains or something is more important than giving it to me for college.”
Shade properly hurled, we’d say.
Now, however, we’ve learned that this issue runs far deeper than June just wanting to horde her own cash.
As it turns out, SHE’S BEEN STEALING FROM HER OWN CHILD.
On Friday’s installment of Mama June: Family Crisis, Mama June revealed that she had taken money from Alana’s Coogan account — a trust where parents of child stars are legally required to deposit a percentage of their earnings — while discussing her plans for college in Colorado.
Alana finally snapped upon finding this out, too.
“Mama’s really pissing me off because she’s trying to make everything about her damn self and it’s like where’s my money?” she said via a confessional.
“I’m gonna get the truth out of Mama and I will find out where my money is. Mama is not getting a slap on the wrist for this one.”
Heck, even June’s husband, Justin, was taken far aback by this revelation.
“Honestly, I was really hurt because I thought me and June was supposed to be able to tell each other everything and if she knew that it was gonna blow up like this, she should have told me about it,” he explained on the episode.
And daughter Lauryn?
“I honestly did not think she could stoop that low,” she said of the act.
Alana eventually broke down in tears after realizing she didn’t know how she’s going to pay for her college education, addressing her mom as follows:
“You don’t really give a f-ck that you took our money, that’s the real problem here. That’s the problem.”
When the kids challenged their mother about what happened to the money in this special, she admitted she took 80 percent and left 20 percent for Alana, prompting Lauryn to say:
“I don’t get what you were even paying for, other than drugs.”
In a subsequent confessional, Alana threatened to take Mama June to “court” because “something’s gonna happen because you ain’t fitting to just get away with stealing my money, baby.”
As it turns out, unless something changes, Alana did not sue her mother.
This episode was filmed months ago.
In positive news, we can confirm she is studying nursing in Colorado — and she has said she received a $21,000 scholarship!
June Shannon appears to be feuding once again with her kids.
On last week’s episode of Mama June: Family Crisis, the 44-year old refused to help pay for her youngest daughter’s college tuition.
No, for real.
Despite Alana Thompson having graduated from high school and wanting to continue her educational journey, June said the following:
“I’m still rebuilding my life, that is why I have chose to give her some tough love and say ‘No, I’m not going to pay for college.'”
The irresponsible parent addressed the topic with Alana and even added:
“If I didn’t give a f-ck about you and I didn’t care about you succeeding and doing the things you want to do, I wouldn’t be saying this.”
We can’t say we exactly follow that logic.
Alana said on air that she didn’t expect any assistance from her mother, but made certain comments that expressed an understandable bitterness.
For example:
“Maybe she thinks that paying for [her husband] Justin’s chains or something is more important than giving it to me for college.”
Now, meanwhile, a few days after this episode aired, Shannon appears to have responded to the backlash.
The polarizing television personality posted a meme Thursday on her social media account that reads as follows:
“You know why she don’t care no more?
“It’s not because she got a cold ass [heart]. It’s because she got that little bit of love inside her heart and she’s trying to protect it.
“So she’s not going to waste that love with people that’s trying to waste and drain her energy and drain her soul.”
Shannon then went ahead and co-signed this message with: Amen. I know I’m not the only person that feels like this.
We have no idea if Shannon is referring to her daughters here.
We very much hope she isn’t saying they drain her energy and that she doesn’t care about them.
But she was openly arguing with them on this recent episode of her lame reality show, and Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird will be very confused and concerned by something she notices on the March 22 episode.
Taking a look at Alana’s Coogan account, which is where June was legally required to deposit her reality TV earnings, Lauryn will see just $33,000.
“There should at least be six figures in that account!” the Here Comes Honey Boo Boo alum claimed in a confessional.
“Something’s not adding up. My money is somewhere. It needs to be found right now, ASAP. Because this is not gonna work.”
At one point, June argues that the government took out half of the original amount for taxes, but then admitted she used the account back in the day any time Alana needed “clothes or whatever, hair appointments, lash appointments, nail appointments…”
Mama June even says on this installment that Alana should be “grateful” because $33,000 is a lot more than “most 18-year-olds start their life with.”
This is true, except… Alana earned that money herself.
And then deduct all of those points for pretty much everything else.
On Friday’s episode of Mama June: Family Crisis, the 44-year old refused to help her daughter, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, with her college tuition after spending most of her savings to finance her past drug addiction.
The issue came up on air because, back when this installment was filmed, Alana was on the verge of graduating from high school.
She wanted to continue her education from there, too.
Mama June questioned her youngest daughter’s intentions and motivations, however.
“If I didn’t give a f-ck about you and I didn’t care about you succeeding and doing the things you want to do, I wouldn’t be saying this,” June said of her doubts that Alana was truly committed to going to college.
“Mama said no and I was kind of expecting that, I’m not gonna lie,” Alana admitted on camera, taking a swipe at her parent as follows:
“Maybe she thinks that paying for [her husband] Justin’s chains or something is more important than giving it to me for college.”
Alana, of course, used to be known as “Honey Boo Boo” and her participation in children’s beauty pageants led to a reality show for her family years ago… which led to a decent financial windfall for her mom.
On this episode, Shannon noted that she has a Coogan account, which a trust where parents of child stars are legally required to deposit their earnings.
However, Alana isn’t be able to access the funds until she was 21.
So June told her kids, that is.
“It would have been nice to have her help. I don’t know, it’s like she doesn’t believe in me, for real,” Alana told sister Lauryn at one point.
Mama June Back in her home, Mama June confided in Justin about her confrontation with her kids.
“I’m still rebuilding my life, that is why I have chose to give her some tough love and say ‘No, I’m not going to pay for college,'” she explained.
“It’s me wanting her to see the bigger picture.”
The bigger picture appears to be that her mother sucks and isn’t supportive in any way, shape or form.
How do we know this?
Consider what June ended up confessing to her spouse on the episode.
“Truth to be known, Pumpkin may be mad and I’m sorry and the world may be mad and think that I’m the worst person ever,” she told Justin.
“I’ve lied to my children over the years.
“I’ve lied to them and told them that you can’t get your money until you’re 21 so they wouldn’t blow through it.”
This is a rather astounding statement for June to make, considering how she’s the one who blew through her money over the years.
“It’s smart to do it like that, Junebug, but the end of the day that’s one of those life lessons that she’s going to have to learn,” Justin said in response to June’s revelation.
Mama June: Family Crisis airs Fridays at 9/8c on WE tv.
We try hard not to judge almost anyone here at The Hollywood Gossip.
It’s nearly impossible to ever really understand what someone else is going through, especially when it comes to tragedy.
And, this past December, June Shannon suffered the ultimate tragedy when her daughter Anna died from cancer.
We continue to send our condolences to June and her loved ones.
We also can’t help but react in a questionable manner, however, to June filming Anna’s final days for her reality TV show, Mama June: Family Crisis.
In a new interview with People Magazine, for example, June provides readers with an update on Anna’s kids (Kaitlyn Elizabeth, 8, and Kylee Madison, 11)… while also teasing upcoming episodes of the aforementioned program.
“Kaitlyn currently lives with me and [husband] Justin. Then, Kylee, she lives with her biological father, but we all knew that,” Shannon explained, prior to citing her television series as follows:
“People will see that also probably they’re talking about the situation as the season goes along.”
Shannon claims that Anna’s last “wishes” were for this to be the case, but she never wrote it down on paper.
“It was a hard thing for her… She struggled, but she let everybody know how she felt, especially at the end,” June previously said.
The father of Anna’s older daughter has never been revealed to the public.
Late last year, Anna’s husband, Eldridge Toney, said more about his spouse’s final days, including a vow he made to his late wife about her two daughters.
“Those are my girls.
“I promised Anna I would do right by them and make sure they remembered their mama. And that is what I will do.”
The Here Comes Honey Boo Boo alum died at age 29 on December 9, less than a year after a stage 4 adrenal carcinoma diagnosis.
“With the breaking heart, we are announcing that @annamarie35 is no longer with us. She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12 PM,” wrote June shortly after losing her child.
“She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months she passed away with her family around her like she won’t and we will be updating y’all with more information as we get it today.”
Mama June: Family Crisis celeb June Shannon faces the fallout from her actions in the new season, and her marriage may be at risk on the WEtv reality series.
Mama June: Family Crisis – June Shannon’s Massive Secret
Coming up this season on Mama June: Family Crisis, June Shannon’s family finds out that she’s been hiding a whopper of a secret. Currently, the topic generating the most buzz in the Shannon family is Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompsonand if she will go to college in Colorado.
Indeed, it’s a wonderful opportunity, and her sister, (who’s been more like a mother), Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon, is dead set on Alana going. However, Alana is unsure because of several different factors. First, there is her sister Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell’s tragic cancer diagnosis.
Then, there was the fact that her boyfriend, Dralin Carswell, was unable to leave the state due to legal problems and couldn’t go with her. So, she’s having a hard time making a decision. Soon, on Mama June: Family Crisis, it looks like Alana decides to attend college in Colorado.
However, she faces a new obstacle that she does not see coming. It turns out that while Mama was deep in her drug addiction, she spent Alana’s college fund on drugs. So now, even with her $21,000 scholarship, Alana might not be able to pay for her college education.
No doubt, this causes an uproar in the family. Of course, Mama’s daughters are furious, especially Alana. But June’s new husband, Justin Stroud, does not take the news well either on Mama June: Family Crisis. And it could jeopardize their marriage.

This season looks to be the wildest one yet. Be sure to tune in to the season premiere on February 9 on WEtv to follow June Shannon and the family’s journey. It will be an intense and emotional ride.
Up next for Lauryn is Bentley Jameson, whom she and Josh welcomed on July 21 of 2021.
Bentley was a surprise. Just a few months before giving birth, Lauryn admitted to People that she and Josh were neither “trying” nor “preventing” a pregnancy.
Of course, Bentley is a little sweetie. But the size of Lauryn and Josh’s brood would soon double.
Lauryn kept a close lid on things, welcoming twins Sylus Ray and Stella Renae on May 19, 2022.
The world only learned about her son and daughter about a month later.
Though fans do not know why Lauryn and Josh kept their baby news under wraps. But Mama June: Family Crisis viewers hope to see more of the twins along with all of the familiar faces.
As for their grandmother, Mama June’s relationship with her grandkids has waxed and waned over the years. In some cases, at least.
For a long time, she and Anna remained estranged (June dated a convicted sex offender, one whom Anna identified as having preyed upon her when she was 8). June did not get to see her eldest granddaughters during that time.
June seems eager to make up for lost time with Kaitlyn, and to have a relationship with all of her descendants. But that will largely be up to her and her behavior.
Infamously, June spent a fortune on drugs during her downward spiral just a few years ago. She lost everything, and her family is still paying the price.
Now, with the support of family and of course of her WEtv show that returns very soon, she’s picking up the pieces.
Her current legal battle sheds light on her income and property. Finally, fans have insight into her long road to financial recovery.
In 2019, Mama June lost (almost) everything
June Shannon previously had a spacious upper middle class home and an estimated net worth of over $1 million.
This wealth primarily came from her years on TLC and her more recent role on WEtv, when the show was still called Mama June: From Not To Hot.
However, spending it all on a drug-fueled bender that spanned many months saw her lose her fortune and her house. Truth be told, many fans feared that she would also lose her life.
Despite the damage to the interior and exterior of her house, someone purchased it. June quickly spent the money.
She and then-boyfriend Geno Doak finally get clean in early 2020. They ended their bender, contacted production, and went to rehab.
June’s road to recovery for her health and personal relationships has not been easy. But her financial recovery may ultimately take even longer.
Online net worth estimates can be dicey, particularly for character actors and reality TV personalities who don’t have Forbes writeups.
However, looking into how June gets her money — and how much she brings in — can help figure out how accurate this is.
Net worth is the sum total of someone’s estimated financial value. We say estimated because the value of someone’s possessions or investments can fluctuate wildly.
In theory, June’s net worth is the value of all of the property that she owns, all of her investments, and all of her liquid currency (cash in the bank) … minus whatever debts she owes.
Almost anyone who owns a house (and many people who own a nicer car) might have a net worth higher than June’s … unless they are grappling with debts.
Recently, June became embroiled in a custody battle
Last year, June’s eldest daughter, Anna Cardwell, tragically died after a cancer battle. The adrenal carcinoma left her two daughters without a living mother.
One went to live with her biological father. The other went to live with June — but her sister’s father is fighting in court to have both girls live with him.
June is fighting back. But that is not the custody battle that revealed June’s income.
During June’s downward spiral, she lost custody of Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson.
Alana is now 18 and has accused June of stealing money from her. Notably, in 2019, June lost access to Alana’s accounts — but, according to her youngest daughter, this protective measure only came after the theft.
On this season of Mama June: Family Crisis, June will continue to face the fallout from this betrayal of her loved ones.
What is Mama June Shannon’s income?
According to a report by In Touch Weekly, the custody battle over Alana Thompson revealed that June’s “only certain income is disability.”
That is what the court documents indicate. Disability (June is nearly blind) brings in just over $1,000 each month … which is truly not enough for someone to live.
However, The court documents also revealed that June brings in $25,000 per month — or, at least, that she did at the time.
Disability income comes with significant means testing and some downright cruel caveats.
However, the system does function in such a way that someone on disability can experience a temporary windfall — such as a lawsuit — without losing their income. It’s complex, but it happens.
But according to court documents, June was making $24k from various sources in 2019. Where did it all come from?
Where does Mama June Shannon get her money?
It is likely that a lot of June’s income stems from her WEtv series. Since 2019, the show has gone through multiple renames, including Mama June: Road to Redemption and Mama June: Family Crisis.
However, she has a number of other revenue streams. Obviously, one is Instagram ads and endorsements.
June has a line of merchandise. With her platform and the volume of her fans, it’s likely that this pays out a pretty penny.
One major earner for June is likely her Cameo account.
June uses this service to record custom videos for paying fans. Many people use these as gifts or pranks to friends and family.
Mama June charges $90 for one short video. She could easily make well over $1,000 in Cameo videos in an hour.
We shouldn’t forget Mama June: Family Crisis. All of June’s suffering and mishaps and drama can sometimes pay off — literally.
Even without knowing how much June makes per episode, it’s likely a tidy sum. No matter what has changed since 2019, she has to be doing okay with reality paychecks.
The next season of Mama June: Family Crisis premieres on February 9, 2024. That show will continue to help her to market herself on Instagram and Cameo and beyond, too.
Several years ago, Mama June Shannon stole money and more from family during a downward spiral.
Truth be told, many people did not expect her to survive.
June made it, and went to rehab – but without a home or the finances that she’d earned through years on reality TV.
Now, on Mama June: Family Crisis, Alana Thompson is confronting her mother for some serious harm. And if she has to take her Mama to court to get justice, so be it.
Alana faces off with June: Does She Care That she stole from her?
On the upcoming season of Mama June: Family Crisis, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson is dealing with very adult concerns: finances and betrayal.
In a teaser clip, which you can see below, Alana, now 18, tearfully confronts her mother.
“You don’t really give a f–k that you took our money!” Alana accuses June. “That’s the real problem!”
June has now spent years in recovery for her addictions. But as we all know, a few years before that, things were very different.
She fires back at Alana during the promo, arguing that she “used [the money] in [her] drug addiction.”
Everyone, including Alana, knows that. It appears that June Shannon is using that to somehow lessen the severity of what she stole.
Other family members become involved in Alana and June’s conflict
We even see Alana approach Justin Stroud, June’s young and recently-acquired husband.
Alana asks him if he knew that June “had stole money” from her.
This is where June fires back, claiming “it was not money stolen!”
Later during the teaser trailer, Alana speaks to the camera about how far she’ll go to set things right.
“I mean, she’s my mother,” Alana affirms.
“But if I gotta put her in jail, I will,” she then confesses. Tough, but arguably fair, assuming that this trailer is not being wildly misleading (as they sometimes are).
Not everything on ‘Mama June: Family Crisis’ is about stolen money
Hearing Alana call out June for money that she stole (allegedly) is a big deal. Other portions of the trailer cover things that fans expected.
Dralin Carswell, Alana’s older boyfriend, found himself in legal trouble. Alana is now a high school graduate and planning her future, which includes going to college (she got a scholarship!).
In 2019, June began a very public downward spiral. The crack cocaine arrest after a public fight with then-boyfriend Geno Doak was only the beginning (in the eyes of her fans, anyway).
It was not long before fans began to hear horror stories of June selling off furniture from her house. Eventually, she sold the house, too — even with visible damage, including from where Geno had driven the SUV into it.
By then, Alana was living with Lauryn — herself a young adult and already a mother. It was Alana’s best option.
At the time, reports cited that Lauryn and Alana took legal measures to cut off any access that June might have had to Alana’s accounts.
June had eviscerated her own savings — burning through, by her own estimate, $900,000 in a single year. All, she admitted, on drugs.
She also sold the deed to a car belonging to daughter Jessica Shannon. Reportedly, some of the furniture and belongings that she and Geno hawked from her house were not actually hers, but Alana’s.
Did June Shannon really steal money from Alana?
In 2019, when Lauryn took custody of Alana, fans hoped that cutting off June’s access to Alana’s money was a preventative measure. A precaution.
From what Alana is now saying, it may be that Alana’s funds were already taking a hit before that. Oh dear.
Let’s be clear: we are all very glad that June is now sober. But being under the influence of a substance does excuse a theft, let alone undo it.
June Shannon claims to have the awkward and tragic receipts.
Just about a month ago, the reality star’s 29-year old daughter, Anna, passed away from cancer.
In the wake of this devastating news, Shannon has found herself in the center of an unfortunate controversy:
She and Anna’s ex-husband, Michael, are fighting over the custody of 11-year old named Kaitlyn, Anna’s oldest daughter — who is NOT the biological child of Michael.
According to Shannon, Anna did not state in her will or in any documentation that she wants the young girl to live with Mama June.
Referring to Michael, Shannon told The Sun last week that “he has no legal rights to Kaitlyn,” adding in a lengthier statement:
“For the first time ever, she stood up to them, she even told Michael the same.
“The Michael thing is about money, and Kaitlyn ain’t a money symbol. Kaitlyn wants to be raised by her biological family.”
Michael’s lawyer said in a statement of his own in response that June has no legal right to Kailyn, either.
A couple days ago, however, Shannon spoke again to The Sun and said that Anna asking her to take over custody of the 11-year old was actually FILMED for an upcoming episode of Mama June: Family Crisis.
“We are following Anna’s wishes at the end of the day,” June told The Sun. “People will see that all this season of the show…
“The world will hear it from Anna’s mouth [that she wanted me to have custody of Kaitlyn].”
If she wasn’t pressured in any way, shape or form by her mom for this to happen?
Who are we to judge, we suppose.
Shannon went on to tell The Sun “Kaitlyn wants to be raised by her biological family.”
As you might expect, Michael’s attorney pushed back against this claim.
“We have heard that before, I believe that’s been Ms. Shannon’s claim for some time, but we’ve seen no documents and no footage of anything,” he has said.
“To be frank, this is a court case that is going to play out in a courtroom in front of a judge and not over any reality TV show.
“We’ve not seen any official documents or any even informal documents that pertain to [Anna’s] decisions.”
The new season of Mama June: Family Crisis is scheduled to premiere in February on WEtv and ALLBLK.
It also appears to be turning into ugly news in some sense… because a custody battle is brewing between Anna’s mother, June Shannon, and Anna’s ex-husband, Michael.
Anna, you see, passed away with two daughters, an eight-year old named Kylee and an 11-year old named Kaitlyn.
The youngest is the biological child of Michael and will be living with her dad going forward.
According to the reality star, Anna told her mom on her death bed that she wanted Kaitlyn to move in with her grandmother.
This request was never formalized in writing, though.
Referring to Michael, June told The Sun this week that “he has no legal rights to Kaitlyn,” adding in a lengthier statement:
“For the first time ever, she stood up to them, she even told Michael the same.
“The Michael thing is about money, and Kaitlyn ain’t a money symbol. Kaitlyn wants to be raised by her biological family.”
Anna was diagnosed with a rare form of adrenal cancer in March.
She chronicled the final months of her life on social media, but made no mention in public of her plans/hopes/intentions in regard to her kids after she passed away.
“We are following the wishes. At the end of the day, I wish she would have done it when she was alive but she didn’t,” June now says.
“It was a hard thing for her… She struggled, but she let everybody know how she felt, especially at the end.”
Elsewhere, after Anna died, her sister, Alana, penned the following tribute:
“Anna was in so much pain last night but now as a family we all know she is at peace now.
“I really don’t know what to say as my heart is completely broken. Watching my 29-year-old sister this last year battle this horrible disease hasn’t been easy. Anna was a fighter & still is.
“Lord please wrap your arms around her 2 babies & our family as the next couple of days will make this all a reality.”
Concluded Alana at the tragic time:
I’m so glad that you waited til I was home to take your last breath.
I would’ve loved for you to get to see me graduate college but I know you will forever cheer me on in heaven!
We will all make sure your legacy lives on forever. And I promise to always make sure to celebrate our birthday like you never left! The sky looks a little bit different today. We will always love you Anna.
You hit me hard with his one Anna but I know your in a better place now and pain free forever!
June already has emergency guardianship of Kaitlyn. She received that on December 15 after daughter Anna Cardwell passed away from her adrenal carcinoma on December 9.
Naturally, June is arguing that she is the most fit parent to care for Kaitlyn. She argues that it would be as easy of a transition as it can be for a girl who just lost her mom.
“Since the mother’s passing, child has remained in the care, custody and control of Petitioner,” her court documents read.
June adds: “Petitioner previously had temporary guardianship of the child.”
“More recently, approximately one month before passing, the mother and child began residing with Petitioner,” June then reveals in her filing.
The same argument adds that June is “not aware of any interested parties other than herself that would have standing to seek custody of the child.”
Which means that anyone interested has no standing (according to June) and that anyone who might have standing has no interest.
Just one day earlier, Michael filed his paperwork seeking custody of Kaitlyn.
Again, Michael is not her biological father. And it does not appear that he ever legally adopted her during his marriage to Anna.
However, Kaitlyn’s alleged father was a man named Caleb Clark. Thus far, there is no DNA evidence tying him to Kaitlyn. And he had no involvement with Kaitlyn’s life.
Michael asserted in his court documents that he had “fully and completely undertaken a permanent, unequivocal, committed, and responsible parental role” with Kaitlyn.
He added that he had “engaged in consistent caretaking of the child and established a bonded and dependent relationship with the child.”
Notably, he says that he would take Kaitlyn alongside Kylee, his biological daughter, during the latter’s custody visits.
Kylee is only 8 years old. She had her birthday earlier this month. It is likely the worst of her life.
Michael has also alleged that he is paying for Kaitlyn’s education.
(It’s unclear what that means, exactly. We do not have detailed information about the girls’ schooling)
Michael also highlighted the years of estrangement between June and Anna, and how Anna spent about half of her childhood with her grandmother — not with her (extremely young) mother.
“Anna has been raised by her maternal grandmother in Griffin, Georgia, since she was approximately 8 years old and only returned to the home of June Shannon when she was 17,” he noted.
“Anna has had a very sordid relationship with her mother throughout her life and went various periods of time without speaking to her,” Michael understated. “Likewise, June’s presence in the minor child’s life has been inconsistent.”
As we previously reported, Michael claimed that he “is the only living person that has shown a constant and continuous interest in the minor child’s well-being.”
He continued: “and being in the custody of the petitioner will be in the child’s best interest.”
The court, of course, will determine that. This is a complex matter. We hope that everyone involved has Kaitlyn’s best interests at heart.
Now, Kylee’s dad is suing for custody of Kaitlyn, too. He’s citing their close bond — and June’s numerous failings as a mother and grandmother.
On Monday, The US Sun reported that Anna Cardwell’s ex, Michael Cardwell, is suing June Shannon for custody of 11-year-old Kaitlyn.
He filed this lawsuit just over a week after Anna passed away from her terminal adrenal carcinoma.
Her daughters are 11-year-old Kaitlyn Clark and 8-year-old Kylee Cardwell. Kylee is Michael’s daughter, and he immediately assumed custody over her.
Notably, Michael has been an active part of Kylee’s life. And while Kaitlyn’s biological father has not done the same for her, she has spent a lot of time with Michael.
Michael’s court argument is that June has previously been “inconsistent” in Kaitlyn’s life.
While part of this was because of June’s life events (her downward spiral a few years ago nearly claimed her life), another factor was estrangements between June and Anna. And not petty ones, either.
Though Michael and Anna split in 2017, which more than half of Kaitlyn’s lifetime ago, they did not lose touch.
According to reports, Michael would continue to take both girls during his custodial visits.
He writes that he has “fully and completely undertaken a permanent, unequivocal, committed, and responsible parental role” for Kaitlyn.
Michael’s court filing also notes that he “engaged in consistent caretaking of the child and established a bonded and dependent relationship with the child.”
“Both [Michael and Anna] understood, acknowledged, accepted and behaved as though [Michael] is a parent of the child and accepted full and permanent responsibilities as a parent of the child,” the filing reports.
Michael’s lawsuit adds that this was “without expectation of financial compensation.” Simply put, he was a dad to her since she was a baby.
And he may have evidence that he’s not the only one to say so.
Back in 2015, when Kaitlyn was only about preschool aged, Anna vlogged about their bond.
“Kaitlyn’s father is Michael, and that’s where it’s gonna be at, and that’s where it’s gonna stay at,” the girl’s late mom stated at the time.
At the time, Anna and Michael were married. But still, those were her words on the matter.
Michael also weighed in on June’s fitness (or lack thereof) to be Kaitlyn’s caretaker.
Several years ago, June lost custody of Alana. And Anna spent about half of her childhood in the care of her maternal grandmother — not June.
Just a reminder, nearly a decade ago, June became the center of a scandal that ruined Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. TLC, a network that has aired many monsters over the years, parted ways with her and canceled the series even though many episodes were in the can.
Mark McDaniel molested Anna when she was a child. After his release from prison, June reconnected with him. The two were in bed together.
This obviously led to Anna’s estrangement from her mother for many years. They only reconciled early this year, after Anna’s diagnosis.
As such, Michael does not believe that June is a fit caretaker. He suggests that he is, however.
On the one hand, we all hate to think of Anna’s daughters living in separate homes after losing their mom.
At the same time … we, the public, have no idea which household is best for Kaitlyn. Family court will have to decide, it seems.
