In an interview with Megyn Kelly, Morgan urged King Charles to punish his youngest son for disloyalty to the royal family.
Piers Morgan to King Charles: It’s Time to Take a Stand Against Harry and Meghan!
“They shouldn’t be using the titles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex bestowed on them by the monarchy,” Morgan said.
“I hope that King Charles – who is massively distracted by his illness – will at some stage have that conversation and say, ‘You can’t keep the titles. I’m sorry,'” the TV personality continued (via Yahoo!).
Interestingly, Morgan acknowledged one major reason why the King will not be following such ridiculous advice.
In a statement sent to journalists on April 26, Buckingham Palace said the monarch “will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis.”
We still do not know the type of cancer nor the precise treatment King Charles has been undergoing.
We can now confirm, however, that he will visit a cancer treatment center to meet medical specialists and patients with Queen Camilla on April 30.
It’s understood that the center has not been directly involved with the King’s medical care.
“This visit will be the first in a number of external engagements His Majesty will undertake in the weeks ahead,” the statement continued, as the palace tries to silence speculation that Charles in very poor condition.
Just recently, we heard that plans for the King Charles funeral were very much in the works.
These plans may not be executed for quite some time, though.
Charles is now booked to host a state visit at Buckingham Palace for the Emperor and Empress of Japan in late June.
King Charles started cancer treatment just weeks before his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, did the same.
She began chemotherapy in late February, although her diagnosis wasn’t made public until last month… following months’ worth of tabloid scrutiny about her whereabouts.
The palace has not disclosed the type or stage of her cancer, either.
To emphasize, we cannot confirm this diagnosis, however.
This king’s reign got underway with the September 2022 death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, who was on the throne longer than any other British monarch.
Charles’ coronation took place eight months after this tragedy.
Friday’s statement from Buckingham Palace, meanwhile, concluded as follows:
“As the first anniversary of The Coronation approaches, Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and good wishes they have received from around the world throughout the joys and challenges of the past year.”
Back in February, Charles said this in his first public comments since the diagnosis:
“I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days.
“As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.
“It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organisations which support cancer patients and their families across the U.K. and wider world.
“My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience.”
To be clear, we cannot verify this follow-up report.
However, In Touch Weekly now writes that funeral plans are already set for the monarch amid his battle with cancer.
Titled “Operation Menai Bridge,” the king’s funeral processions will look similar to Queen Elizabeth II’s ceremonies, which were dubbed “Operation London Bridge.”
As his cancer progresses, insiders have explained to this tabloid that final resting plans are of timely importance.
They must all be approved before the unfortunate occasion of King Charles’ death.
“It’s a fairly common thing to do among the British royalty, but in Charles’ case expediency is necessary,” says an In Touch source, noting that “some courtiers believe Charles’ cancer is worse than they’re making it out to be.”
It’s worth stating that this is the same magazine who provided us last month with the aforementioned two-year timeline.
Operation Menai Bridge is set to include familiar protocols to those who have been following The Royal Family.
When the monarch dies, Charles’ body will be moved from the throne room at Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall.
He will lie in state…. and his official funeral will take place nine days later. He will most likely be buried in the royal vault at Windsor Castle.
“It will have all the pomp and circumstance befitting a British monarch,” In Touch also now writes, having reported a couple weeks ago:
“King Charles is much sicker than the palace lets on and simply isn’t up to the job of running his fractious family, the crown’s business interests and fulfilling the daily duties of the monarchy.
“His cancer is eating him alive. He’s very frail. The situation is desperate.”
How very, very sad.
King Charles’ Cancer Treatment Going Poorly, Source Claims
According to a surprising new follow-up report from The Daily Beast, insiders say that King Charles’ battle with cancer is going poorly, and planning for the monarch’s funeral is already underway.
“Of course he is determined to beat it and they are throwing everything at it. Everyone is staying optimistic, but he is really very unwell. More than they are letting on,” says one insider, adding:
The plans have been dusted off and are actively being kept up to date. It’s no more than what you would expect given the king has been diagnosed with cancer. But the circulation of them has certainly focused minds.”
“Of course they are looking at every aspect of Menai Bridge,” a second source added.
“The queen’s funeral went like clockwork and set a high bar. It’s not an emotional thing, it’s a job, one taken very seriously, and understandably no-one plans to get caught out.”
King Charles, of course, isn’t the only member of this world famous family to have cancer.
A short time ago, Kate Middleton announced to the world that she also has a form of this illness.
The message also said the king, who received treatment in the same hospital as Princess Kate, has “remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks,” adding that he and his wife “will continue to offer their love and support to the whole family through this difficult time.”
We’ll have further updates on Charles’ treatment as new information becomes available.
Amid the greatest crisis the royal family has faced in recent memory, there are concerns that after less than two years as Prince of Wales, Prince William may be unfit to take the throne.
And it seems that those concerns not just coming from fearful outsiders.
According to a new report from In Touch, King Charles himself is worried that William might not be ready to step into the role of monarch.
Charles, of course, spent decades preparing for his ascension, but William sadly may not have the same luxury.
At 76, Charles is battling cancer, and though the severity of his condition and the organs affected remain unclear (more on that later), insiders say the king is bracing himself for the worst.
That means preparing William to serve as monarch, a role Charles only stepped into in 2022.
Obviously, William has been in the spotlight his entire life, but the transition from Prince of Wales to King of the United Kingdom is a tricky one to navigate, and concerns about the heir’s qualifications are said to be exacerbating the current strain on the royals.
Prince William: Unfit to Rule, Or Simply Unprepared?
“Charles knows the pressures of being the monarch,” a source tells In Touch.
“And he just isn’t sure William is ready to take his place. It seems premature, and there could be consequences.”
One issue, it seems, is a perceived lack of maturity on William’s part.
Yes, Prince Harry might have a reputation as the family’s resident partier, but it seems that William still enjoys an occasional pint or four at his local.
According to In Touch, William is known to sip a few beers after work, followed by “several glasses of wine with dinner,” leading him to “wake up crabby.”
“Charles has counseled him that there can be no more carefree outings to the pub anymore,” the insider claims.
There are also concerns about William’s temper, especially after a passage in Harry’s memoir detailed a physical altercation between the brothers.
“Word is, the altercation Harry mentioned in Spare wasn’t the first to occur,” a second source claims.
“There was a growing rivalry between William and Harry ever since they were little and sometimes things got heated between them.”
All of this has led to great concern, as William has more on his plate these days than ever before.
In addition to the fact that William’s wife, Kate Middleton, is battling cancer, there have been rumors that the king’s condition is far worse than the public has been led to believe.
King Charles Prognosis: Is It a Worst-Case Scenario?
“He has pancreatic cancer and has a maximum of two years to live,” the source tells In Touch.
The source adds that Charles “is willing to try any treatment to extend his life by a few years, at least,” but he’s well aware that when it comes to preparing William for the throne, time is of the essence.
“William does a very good job putting on a smile and calm face in public, but it does bother him,” the insider adds.
We’ll have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.
Following Kate Middleton’s own cancer reveal, the public realized that two of the most prominent members of this famous family are fighting similar battles.
Now, for the first time since the Princess of Wales went public, Charles has made a royal appearance in person.
The annual Faith Leaders Forum was King Charles’ first official public event since Kate Middleton’s cancer announcement
On Tuesday, March 26, King Charles met with alumni of the Windsor Leadership Trust at St. George’s House at Windsor Castle.
The event was The Faith Leaders’ Forum, inviting 18 guests. Though it is not longer referred to as the Three Faiths Forum, reports say that it still limits the addressed faiths to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
Notably, those are all three Abrahamic faiths which share much in terms of history and theology. Going by U.K. demographics, the three together only account for slightly more than 50% of adherents.
The Daily Mail reports that Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Charles will join Camilla at the annual Easter Mattins Service.
This will take place at St George’s Chapel, which is also at Windsor Castle.
The palace’s statement explained Charles’ event
“The King heard about [the Windsor Leadership Trust alumni’s] involvement in The Faith Leader’s Forum,” the Royal firm’s Twitter account wrote.
The account continued: “Where they had an opportunity to openly share their experiences of leading in their communities at a time of heightened international tensions.”
While the gathering could clearly have been more inclusive and demographically representative of the United Kingdom’s diversity of faith, it’s an effort in the right direction. For all of his flaws, Charles has historically tried to be progressive.
Officially, King Charles has not disclosed what form of cancer he has. The fact that he has not shared this, but that he did make the cancer news public, has allowed people to infer that it is serious.
As the head of an influential family with over $10 billion (according to estimates) in known net worth, he has access to the best healthcare on the planet. Sometimes, however, that is not enough.
King Charles and daughter-in-law Kate Middleton have something in common
Previously, their royal duties and shared (albeit very different) love for Prince William linked Kate and Charles. Now, they are both battling cancer.
There are many instances where cancer has environmental causes. However, given that both of these individuals have been wealthy for their entire lives, this is likely a tragic coincidence.
It is unclear if Charles plans to resume royal duties more regularly, or if he was simply feeling up to it for a few days.
As you very likely know by now, King Charles and Kate Middleton have some very painful, personal and simply unfortunate in common:
Both members of the Royal Family have been diagnosed with cancer.
The monarch reportedly has pancreatic cancer and may only have two years to live… while the Princess of Wales revealed to the public her tragic piece of tragic news in a video released this past Friday.
It took the entire globe by total surprise.
Following a “successful” surgery on January 16 — which Kensington Palace alerted us to, yet provided very few details about about — Middleton explained on March 22:
“Tests after the operation found cancer had been present.
“My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.
“This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”
We do not know at the moment the type of cancer Middleton is battling.
Not long after learning of this terrible news, meanwhile, King Charles released his first statement.
“[I am] so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did,” it said.
The statement also said the king, who received treatment in the same hospital as Princess Kate, has “remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks,” adding that he and his wife “will continue to offer their love and support to the whole family through this difficult time.”
“We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”
The world is rallying around Middleton at the moment in the wake of a confusing couple months during which the Palace tried to hide her from the public and also pretended as if everything was fine.
She has three young kids and must focus on them and her recovery above everything else.
On March 23, one day after the Princess of Wales announced in a video message that she had been diagnosed with cancer, A Kensington Palace spokesperson sent this follow-up message:
The Prince and Princess are both enormously touched by the kind messages from people here in the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Her Royal Highness’ message.
They are extremely moved by the public’s warmth and support and are grateful for the understanding of their request for privacy at this time.
It isn’t every day that Andy Cohen disses someone as high-profile as Prince William. But William is not the most popular — or sympathetic — royal at the moment.
The public didn’t buy the official story about her recovery from surgery. That suspicion was spot-on. Similarly, a lot of the public aren’t buying the idea that Prince William has been entirely faithful.
Andy Cohen doesn’t sound like he’s bought those claims, either. He’s put the Prince of Wales on blast, with a blistering comparison to King Charles.
Andy Cohen has some thoughts about Prince William
During the Friday, March 22 episode of his Daddy Diaries podcast, Andy Cohen addressed the longstanding infidelity rumors about Prince William.
The salacious claims earned William nicknames like the “Prince of Pegging” and simply “Peggy,” referring to an alleged sex act that he preferred with Marchioness Rose Hanbury.
Years after the story broke, Hanbury has denied the alleged affair. Critics of the secretive and bizarrely influential royal firm have debated how meaningful any official statements on this story could possibly be.
Andy Cohen specifically delved into speculation that Kate’s absence from public life could have some connection to William’s alleged infidelity.
“It all seems to come back to this lady Rose who he’s had an affair — who he allegedly had an affair with,” Cohen said, rephrasing to more legally safe phrasing as he spoke. Smart!
Andy then pointed to the timeline of William and Kate’s romance before they ultimately married.
Prince William wasn’t always in a rush to marry Kate Middleton
“Don’t forget he broke it off with [Middleton] after they dated for years and sowed his wild oats for a time and then went back to her,” Andy recalled.
There is truth to that: Prince William and Princess Kate did break up in both 2004 and in 2007, reconciling both times.
Some fan theories suggest that William resolved to marry Kate and “lock it down,” as it were, once he realized that his hairline was receding. That is, perhaps, a mean-spirited theory.
Andy Cohen doubled down on shadiness with a reference to King Charles famously cheating on William’s mother, Princess Diana. The other woman in that relationship is now his wife, Queen Camilla.
The Bravo exec called William “his father’s [son].” That line can, on rare occasions, be a compliment. Certainly not in this instance.
Andy is not the first to imply that William has followed his father’s footsteps with the Marchioness of Cholmondeley. Even if most of us try to avoid pronouncing that particular name (it’s pronounced “Chumlee,” which is infuriating) at all costs.
Andy Cohen’s diss of Prince William came out before Kate Middleton shared her news
In a video that took many in the public by surprise, the Princess of Wales revealed on Friday, March 22, that she had cancer.
According to her claims in the video, the abdominal surgery in January and subsequent tests had detected the presence of cancer.
So she, like her father-in-law, King Charles, has cancer and has been undergoing treatments for it.
Of course, Kate’s revelation comes after months of speculation, concern, and bungled PR opportunities.
It’s clear that, initially, the royal firm intended to withhold this information from the public. The family did so for months, hoping that a blatantly phony family portrait would silence questions. It didn’t.
With that in mind, people are less willing to believe anything coming out of that family. It wasn’t so long ago that (allegedly) Kate herself was claiming to have caused the photoshop fail. The royal firm will say what it wants to the public, and nothing else.
This comes as no surprise, given the history of her relationship with his father, the public scandal, and the overall story of Harry’s family.
According to Harry’s book, Camilla leaked stories about the royal family in order to maintain her own image — at the expense of others.
“I have complex feelings about gaining a step-parent who I thought had recently sacrificed me on her personal P.R. altar,” Harry reflected in his memoir.
He referred to Camilla as the “other woman” within the book, and also likened her to receiving a shot at the doctor’s — something to endure with a wince.
Harry went on to describe his stepmother as “dangerous” in her desperate grasping for popularity “because of the connections that she was forging within the British press.”
Harry is not the only prince with Camilla issues
Notably, Harry’s book revealed that both he and William had “begged” Charles to not marry Camilla.
Famously, he did, marrying her in 2005. Camilla is now queen.
That revelation cannot have gone over well with Camilla, if she did not already know that Harry and William had these feelings.
Speaking of William, Harry reportedly did not see his brother.
Prince William is stepping out in public in the wake of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis.
And hey look, there’s Tom Cruise!
Though he’s spent time by his wife’s side, he has his royal duties to perform.
This week, following reports of the aged monarch’s swollen prostate, the world learned that King Charles has cancer.
The Crown Prince has a lot on his mind. Heavy is the head that may very soon wear the crown.
Prince William is Back to Work & Rubbing Elbows With Tom Cruise
On Wednesday morning, Prince William held a lavish investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.
During this, he bestowed over 50 honors on his father’s behalf.
But later that evening, attended a gala fundraising dinner for London’s Air Ambulance Charity, an event he’s gone to for a number of years.
Upon arriving, he addressed photographers for the first time since Buckingham Palace announced his father King Charles’ cancer diagnosis.
“We really appreciate everyone’s kind messages,” he said. “Thank you.”
Soon after, he was greeted by none other than Tom Cruise, a friend of the family.
Many will remember that Tom actually attended Princess Diana’s funeral. He also was quite close the late Queen Elizabeth II.
He actually flew to Windsor Castle in his helicopter for lunch with her just months before her death in September 2022.
Plus, William and Kate were both on hand for the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick when it came to Lond.
Earlier this year, Kate Middleton spent an extended period under hospitalization. She underwent surgery, and has a long recovery ahead of her.
Now, King Charles’ cancer diagnosis is public. Obviously, the family — most of them, anyway — learned of this first.
It is only natural that Prince William spent time with his beloved family members. But he has royal duties that cannot wait — especially when his father cannot perform them.
While Charles has outpatient cancer treatment this week, William is stepping up to the plate.
Despite a lack of direct political power, the royal family remains a sort of very expensive national mascot. They have ceremonial duties to perform — and just as Charles stepped in for Elizabeth from time to time, William is doing the same for Charles.
Prince William honored a number of athletes
During this first public appearance since the Firm disclosed Charles’ diagnosis, William handed out honors to a number of soccer players.
Soccer is called “football” in the UK, and William is president of the nation’s Football Association.
William and Kate’s official Instagram account praised the “amazing” athletes for “doing incredible things” for various communities.
However, he has spent recent weeks caring for his wife, Kate Middleton.
Following her hospitalization in January, Kate has been spending time with family in Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. There, the public expects her to remain for another couple of months.
Not everyone feels overt concern for Charles
Cancer diagnoses should never be a matter of a popularity contest. One does not have to be likable to deserve to live.
However, anyone who exists as the public face of the British monarchy is also assuming a lot of responsibility for all that it represents.
Generations of hoarded wealth, obscene displays of opulence when the public withers under austerity, and leeching over $100 million from taxpayers per year … it’s never going to elicit much sympathy from a lot of people.
One day, unless society makes a lot of very sensible decisions in a very short amount of time, Prince William will be king.
Then, all of that complex baggage will fall on his shoulders instead of his father’s.
He is a bit more popular than Charles, however. His wife is much more tolerant of his indiscretions. And perhaps he’ll elicit more sympathy when his own health begins to fail.
Prince Harry returned to the UK to see his father, King Charles, after the announcement that His Majesty has been diagnosed with cancer.
And then just like that, he was gone!
On February 5, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had been seen by doctors and is being treated for a “form of cancer.”
“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted,” the palace said in a statement.
Shortly after the news broke, sources who spoke to Page Six revealed that Prince Harry was making immediate arrangements to fly back to the UK to be reunited with his father.
He was expected to arrive at Windsor Castle in the next few days, but arrived in London within the day of the news being made public.
Photos show Harry supposedly leaving the airport in London en route to Buckingham Palace around 2pm local time.
But less than 24 hours later, Harry was seen boarding a plane back to America after his brief time with his father – and without seeing his brother at all!
Harry’s Solo Visit Home
As it turns out, Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, or their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, did not join him for the visit.
It was reported that, prior to this announcement, Harry and Meghan had a Valentine’s day trip planned. It appears that the trip will still happen, since he’s already on his way back to California.
However, it sounds like Prince Harry has been kept in the loop by royal sources about his father’s health ever since he was hospitalized for this recent prostate procedure.
Additionally, now that Kate is on the mend, Prince William is also reportedly on route to be with his father after the diagnosis.
Could this hard times actually be bridging the gap between the family? Time will tell, we suppose.
King Charles’ Health: The Latest
Right now, the most anyone knows about the King’s condition is just what the palace released in their statement.
It reads:
During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.
His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.
The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.
His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.
King Charles has cancer, Buckingham Palace has announced.
Following his hospitalization for a prostate procedure and Kate Middleton’s recent surgery, the Palace announced that his Majesty has been diagnosed with something far more serious than original anticipated.
At this time, he is undergoing treatment and has cancelled all public engagements.
Here’s what else we know.
What Kind Of Cancer Does King Charles Have?
“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties,” the palace announced in their official statement.
The 75-year-old royal had just recently visited a London hospital for a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate last month.
It was the same hospital treating his daughter-in-law Kate Middleton for a surgery that has put her out of commission until Easter.
“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted,” the palace statement said. “Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.”
If the King is suffering specifically from prostate cancer, the royals have not said, but updates should be coming in the weeks to come.
King Charles Stepping Down from The Crown?
As the King will now need to focus on his health, the palace as confirmed that he has cancelled all of his engagements going forward.
“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure.” the statement reads. “He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
Reps further added: “His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”
The news comes after a shocking report that suggests that Charles will look to abdicate the throne in the next decade to make way for Prince William to take over the throne.
Here’s wishing His Majesty good health and speedy recovery, and the best to his family looking after him.
For now, he’s paving the way for William to become king and Kate to become queen before they reach the same old age that 75-year-old Charles has.
“I think it will happen in this country,” Burrell suggested.
“I think the king and queen have given this job 10 years,” he continued. “I think this is a 10-year plan.”
In Burrell’s estimation, Charles is currently “buying time” and likely has a “10-year plan” before he steps down.
Remember, King Charles was set for life the moment that he was born
“I don’t think he will want to continue being king,” Burrell speculated.
He noted that this is a time “when crowned heads of Europe have found that they can hand over to their heirs and see them become monarch and enjoy it.”
Retirement has a lot of benefits. Especially when you have a thankless job as an overpriced mascot, but your adult children might actually enjoy the gig.
“The queen would never have done that,” Burrell acknowledged.
He noted that this is “because she came from a different generation, her entire life was molded around being a monarch.”
Burrell went on to add: “But the king will know exactly what to do and take a page out of Prince Philip’s book and say, ‘I’ve done enough’ and want to do things he wants to do.”
If King Charles does abdicate, how will the citizenry respond?
“I think the country will embrace a new, young king and queen,” Burrell speculated.
“And,” he added, “it will complete the circle that Diana’s son will be king.”
Notably, Charles is less popular than his son and heir — and less popular than his late mother was.
Notably, Charles would not be the only or first monarch (though it is bonkers that any still exist) to step down to allow a middle-aged heir to take the throne.
After all, just weeks ago, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark announced her abdication – during her December 31 New Year’s speech, no less. Two weeks later, Crown Prince Frederik took the throne.
Many believe that 83-year-old Margrethe simply wanted to watch her son become king. And, perhaps, to allow a younger generation to guide things, however symbolically.
Charles has always had progressive-for-a-royal sensibilities
Though he is not necessarily a good person, King Charles does want to leave the world a better place.
Perhaps he, too, would like to see younger minds and faces represent the monarchy.
And Burrell suspects that, when he’s a few years into his 80s, Charles will pass the crown on to William.
Are William and Kate ready to become King and Queen?
Burrell predicts that the Prince and Princess of Wales will be stepping up in their royal duties in the coming years, including this one.
As they act on their responsibilities, Charles can capitalize on his daughter-in-law’s popularity. And William and Kate can show how prepared they are for an eventual abdication.
Obviously, only King Charles knows his plans for the future.
And he could always change his mind. Plans change. Minds change. We live in tumultuous times.
But maybe the UK can look forward to a not-so-distant future without Charles in charge.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made an unexpected appearance at a movie premiere in Jamaica on Tuesday night.
The couple was on hand for a screening of One Love, the upcoming biopic about Jamaican music legend Bob Marley.
The appearance comes at a time when the Sussexes’ rocky relationship with the rest of the royal family is generating international headlines on a daily basis.
Then again, the rift between the two warring factions of the Windsor clan is pretty much always making news.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry In Jamaica: An Insult to the Crown?
The British tabloid media blasted Harry and Meghan’s decision to pose next to “anti-royal” Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
The Daily Mail accused Holness of wanting to “ditch the monarchy” and alleged that he once “warned” Prince William and Kate Middleton that “they’ll never be king and queen of his nation.”
In that same headline, the Mail contextualized Harry and Meghan’s trip as an affront to the royals during a time of crisis.
The outlet noted that the visit occurred “as Charles undergoes prostate surgery and the Princess of Wales recovers in hospital.”
The implication there is that the Sussexes are complicating Charles and Kate’s recoveries by hanging out with their enemies.
That take is made all the more bizarre by reports that Harry and Meghan reached out to Kate and Charles in the wake of their recent health scares, a move that many have described as a peace offering.
Author Robert Hardman, author of the controversial new book The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, joined in on this week’s drubbing by claiming that certain members of the royal family were pleased when Harry and Meghan moved to America.
Harry and Meghan’s Absence Celebrated By Royal Family?
“Harry and Meghan’s departure brought Charles and his mother closer together,” Hardman toldPeople magazine this week.
“I don’t think anything could really trump the sort of sense of shock. That was huge,” Hardman said of the interview.
“There was a sort of weary resignation, but also a sense that, ‘Look, I’ve got so much to worry about now that I don’t have the luxury of dwelling on this,’” he continued.
“If that’s what they want to do. I mean there’s, there’s only so much I as a father can do. And the door is always open.”
Yes, Meghan and Harry can’t even attend a movie premiere without the British press getting all in a tizzy.
We don’t often hear Prince Harry telling jokes about King Charles, especially in the years since father and son have become estranged.
But Harry let his guard down earlier this week and cracked a joke at the king’s expense during an appearance at the 21st annual Living Legends of Aviation Awards in Beverly Hills.
Harry was on hand to receive an award in honor of the work he performed during his time with the British army.
After being presented the award by fellow aviation enthusiast John Travolta, Harry shared a fond childhood memory involving his father.
“I think I was maybe 7 or 8 years old in a Wessex helicopter, and I jumped into it so excited. And then my father jumped in behind the controls, and I was terrified,” Harry quipped.
Obviously, no one was hurt that day, and Harry was just joking when he expressed his fear that his dad would crash the vessel.
The Duke of Sussex’s comments might seem fairly inconsequential, but they come at a watershed moment in his relationship with the king.
Prince Harry’s Joke About King Charles May Have Been a Peace Offering
There was a time when it looked as though that revelation might be the final straw for the damaged relationship between father and son.
But earlier this week, an unexpected development led many to conclude that these two could be on the verge of burying the hatchet.
Prince Harry Reaches Out to Ailing King Charles
Following news that the king had been admitted to the hospital for a “corrective procedure” on an enlarged prostate, Harry reportedly reached out to Charles with a phone call.
It was a small step toward repairing the relationship, but insiders say it might have been an important one.
And by joking about a fond memory with his father, Harry could be signaling to the world that the feud between them is on the verge of being settled.
It’s a far cry from this time last year when Harry was promoting his new memoir and publicly claiming that his efforts to make peace with his family had been repeatedly rebuffed.
“And every single time I tried to do it privately there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife,” Harry said in an interview with Anderson Cooper in January 2023.
“You know, the family motto is ‘Never complain, never explain.’ It’s just a motto.”
According to journalist Omid Scobie, Harry and Charles’ relationship was always closer than the one between Charles and Prince William, who tend to be more businesslike in their interactions.
“A striking difference between Charles and William when it comes to their relationships with Harry is there is still a warmth with Harry and Charles,” the author recently toldPeople magazine.
“With Harry, there’s a reluctant acceptance that this is just who his father is.”
Well, that closeness might enable Harry and Charles to overcome the years of bad blood and rebuild their relationship.
Of course, father and son will have to overcome interference from the media and others who might prefer that they remain at odds.
Back in 2021, Meghan Markle stunned the world when she revealed during an interview with Oprah Winfrey that a member of the royal family had expressed concerns about Prince Archie’s skin tone prior to his birth.
Insiders had previously indicated that Meghan was subjected to prejudice during her time in London, but this was the first time that the duchess had accused Prince Harry’s family of making explicitly racist remarks.
The situation was made even more horrifying by the fact that Meghan was pregnant at the time of the incident, and the comments were directed at her unborn child.
But despite what she’d endured, Meghan chose to protect her husband’s family by refusing to identify the party responsible for those remarks.
This week, however, after years of speculation, it looks as though the truth may have finally come out.
The name of the party responsible for the comment was redacted in every other edition of the book.
“Even after Meghan and Charles by letter discussed about probable unconscious bias within the family after it was revealed that [redacted] took part in such conversations about Archie, [redacted] has avoided discussing the subject with [redacted],” reads the version that hit stores in the US and UK.
Many mainstream media outlets in the UK have been reluctant to identify the accused royals, but controversial TV personality Piers Morgan decided to bring the matter out in the open on Wednesday’s edition of his show.
Morgan explained that he doesn’t “believe any racist comments were ever made by any of the royal family” but feels that his fellow citizens have a right to the facts about the situation.
“Frankly, if Dutch people wandering into a bookshop can pick it up and see these names, then you — the British people here, who actually pay for the British royal family — you’re entitled to know, too,” Morgan told his audience.
“The royals who are named in this book are King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales,
It was the first time that Kate Middleton’s name had been mentioned in connection with this scandal, but Morgan did not go into specifics with regard to the Princess of Wales’ involvement.
Not surprisingly, reps for the royal family have yet to respond to requests for comment.
The allegations have been a dark cloud hanging over Buckingham Palace ever since Meghan responded in the affirmative when Oprah asked if one of the Windsors inquired “about how dark your baby is going to be.”
“Potentially, and what that would mean or look like,” Meghan replied.
At the time, Harry vowed never to identify the party responsible.
“That conversation I am never going to share, but at the time, it was awkward,” he said. “I was a bit shocked.”
We’ll have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.
The couple’s apartments in the Windsor estate had served as their home base during visits to the UK, and Charles’ decision to kick the Sussexes out was regarded by many as an unnecessary act of aggression.
Defenders of the king say he was merely cutting costs, while Sussex supporters insist that this was a punitive measure prompted by Charles’ outrage over claims made in Harry’s memoir.
Whatever the case, the move seems to have had the effect of deepening the rift between the warring factions of the royal family, at least temporarily.
Apparently, the monarch chatted with his youngest son, his daughter-in-law, and his two American grandchildren for several minutes before reluctantly hanging up to mingle with his in-person guests.
It was a surprising turn of events, as only a few months prior, Harry had poignantly suggested to his father that the eviction might lead to a permanent estrangement.
The source of this information is a controversial new book by journalist Omid Scobie, a longtime ally of the Sussexes.
According to Scobie, when Charles kicked the Sussexes out of Frogmore, Harry indicated that the move might have lasting consequences.
“Don’t you want to see your grandchildren?” Harry allegedly asked Charles.
There are many ways that that question can be interpreted, and since Scobie is a longtime Sussex defender, he likely intended the anecdote to bolster the duke’s image by demonstrating his ability and willingness to stand up to his domineering father.
But not everyone took it that way.
Critics insist that Harry was threatening Charles and attempting to use his own children as bargaining chips.

The account seems to have backfired, as many have praised Charles for his refusal to back down in the face of Harry’s “bullying.”
The far more likely explanation for this exchange is that Harry was simply pointing out to his father that it would be more difficult for him to visit with the entire family in tow if the king took steps that would force him to secure his own accommodations.
The birthday phone call may have been a step in the right direction, but clearly, this family has a long way to go before they can spend a peaceful holiday together.
The entire world has seen how screwed up the British royal family is these days. And, for once, not just because of generations of inbreeding or the inherent absurdity of the monarchy!
Simply put, the royals screwed things up for themselves by alienating Harry and spoonfeeding negative Meghan stories to racist tabloids.
With Queen Elizabeth II gone but not forgotten, there is only one person who could conceivably repair the damage.
But King Charles simply hasn’t made enough of an effort. And royal insiders are on their last nerve waiting for him to fix things before it’s too late.
Page Six got a hold of an advance copy of Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival by journalist Omid Scobie.
While the book’s title is as unnecessarily long as the existence of the monarchy itself, it contains insights.
And it mentions that the British royal family as a whole are sick and tired of Charles III not making moves to fully reconcile with Prince Harry.
In early 2020, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle stepped back from their active roles within the royal firm.
They were, and are, still family. But after years of mistreatment, it was time for a new direction.
Prince Harry watched a British media maelstrom destroy his mother. He wasn’t going to watch it happen to his wife.
Prince Harry has detailed a lot of what he and his wife faced, between a number of interviews and his bestselling memoir, Spare.
Over time, Harry and Meghan have both attempted to extend olive branches. They don’t hate his family; they just couldn’t continue as things were and had to protect themselves.
However, it sounds like Charles — and a few others — are the ones stonewalling them.
“It’s complex, but there’s increasing frustration from some of the wider circle of family members that Charles won’t just fix things for the sake of everyone,” one royal source dished.
A friend of Harry’s shared that he reached out to his father last year to wish the family a Merry Christmas. He hoped to break the ice.
“It was an awkward conversation,” this friend admitted. “But he knew if he didn’t make those first steps, there would never be any progress.”
“There were no raised voices, no arguments … but the King was cold and brief rather than open to any proper dialogue,” the book shares.
Scobie also alleged that “both the institution and the family” were struggling to “come to grips” with one simple reality.
Harry and Meghan have enjoyed massive personal and professional success after leaving the royal firm in their wake. This is not the vibe that the royal family wants to put out — and they even fear upstaging by Harry and Meghan’s triumphs.
“I’ve watched Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace repeatedly get worried about being upstaged and derailed by the couple,” Scobie wrote.
“And,” he continued, “leak negative information on Harry and Meghan.” That part is no surprise.
Scobie observed that this messy business went down “during moments that could easily be focused on genuine royal news instead.”
“After Harry’s exit, William is considerably more alone in the battle of his two selves,” Scobie then observed.
“Even though they were always on different paths,” he noted. “Harry and William once shared an office, worked on the same foundations, and wanted to protect their families from the things they both feared.”
An addition source cited that William and Charles “have been unified in their frustrations with Harry.” Many have observed their similar dispositions. It is never a compliment.
A new Vanity Fair report confirms that Meghan Markle personally told Charles about royal racism. This impacted her and, of course, Charles’ own grandchild — now, grandchildren.
It’s a keen reminder that Charles has had many opportunities to correct injustices and resolve this situation.
Instead, he was part of driving away Harry and Meghan. And now, he is seemingly too proud or too stubborn to try to fix his mistake.
When Harry and Meghan called Charles on his birthday, many took it as a sign that the warring factions of the royal family had finally declared a truce.
So reports that Charles had decided not to invite Harry and Meghan for Christmas came as a blow to those who have been hoping for an easing of tensions within the Windsor clan.
The news is especially shocking as it conflicts with the many reports indicating that the king wants nothing more than to bury the hatchet with his son and daughter-in-law.
So why would Charles publicly snub Harry and Meghan when his greatest wish is to rebuild those relationships?
Well, according to a new report from the Daily Mail, it’s the future king, not the current one, who insists on keeping the Sussexes at arm’s length.
Yes, insiders tell the outlet that Prince William is still furious about Harry’s memoir, and he made it clear to Charles that if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were invited to Christmas, then the Prince and Princess of Wales would be skipping this year’s festivities.
The situation has reportedly taken a major toll on Charles, who even considered celebrating the holiday with his sons in “shifts.”
There were talks about the king inviting William and Kate to Sandringham for Christmas and then decamping to Balmoral, where he would commence an early New Year’s celebration with Harry and Meghan.
“It would certainly have the advantage of killing two birds with one stone; extending an olive branch to one son without causing difficulty to the other,” one insider tells the Mail.
It would also, the source notes, put an end to the rumors that Charles has decided to sever ties with Harry.
However, any such an arrangement might call more public attention to the ongoing feud between Harry and William — which is allegedly one reason why Charles will not invite his youngest for the holidays.
“It would be surprising for the Sussexes not to have received an invitation by now if there was going to be one. New Year in Scotland would be more likely,” the source explains.
“But as with anything to do with Harry and Meghan, let’s face it, anything can happen.”
It’s certainly true that anything can happen — but if William has already made it clear that he doesn’t like the optics of Charles spending the holidays with Harry, then it seems unlikely that such a public reunion will take place.
It’s another victory for the future king — and another indication that the hostility within this family is as potent as ever.
Of course, much was made of the fact that only one of the monarch’s two sons was on hand for the occasion.
However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did call Charles on the phone and wish him a happy birthday, and insiders say the king happily chatted with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren for several minutes.
It was a surprising development, and many hoped it would mark the end of the long-simmering feud between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family.
But while the phone call might’ve marked the beginning of peace talks, it seems that the two parties still have a lot of work to do before they can officially declare a truce.
According to a new report from UK newspaper the Sunday Times (via The Daily Beast), Harry and Meghan have not been invited to spend Christmas with Charles and family at Sandringham House.
And it does not appear that any such invitation is forthcoming.
One insider tells the outlet that Meghan and Harry would likely accept such an invitation amid the recent easing of tensions.
And that makes the snub all the more painful.
“I can’t imagine the Sussexes would decline an invitation to spend time with His Majesty,” says the source.
“As of yet, there have not been any invitations for the holidays.”
Now, if you were raised in a particularly sarcastic family, your parents might have once said something to you along the lines of “What, you need a formal invitation to spend Christmas with us?”
The question is usually asked rhetorically, but in Harry and Meghan’s case, it would be answered with an unironic “yes!”
Further complicating the issue is the fact that Buckingham Palace has refused to allow Harry to compensate royal security staff out of his own pocket.
According to the Sunday Times source, “Without security or a place to stay in the UK, they now need a ‘formal invitation’ from the king or Buckingham Palace to be able to stay on ‘protected property’ that has adequate security for the whole family.”
And apparently, the king is inflexible on this issue and has made it quite clear that
Royal aides told the paper that “temporary accommodation for Harry on the royal estate, which is covered by heightened protection, is likely to be made available for him, when feasible, if requested for any short visits.”
Sadly, it seems unlikely that these issues will be sorted out ahead of the holiday season.
As the Times source points out, Charles has never spent a Christmas with Archie and Lili, “nor, it is thought, any significant time with them. It is understood there is deep sadness on both sides of the Atlantic at this status quo.”
And it looks as though that will remain true for the foreseeable future.
