Forget the Apple Watch Ultra when the Garmin Fenix 7 is this cheap

Garmin Fenix 7 watch displaying 5K running prediction time.

As much as we like the Apple Watch Ultra, it doesn’t hold a candle to the value for money offered by this Garmin deal.

Right now you can get the excellent Garmin Fenix 7 for just £399 – an unbelievable price when you consider that it originally went for £599.99 at launch.

It’s also considerably cheaper than the Apple Watch Ultra 2 which has a starting price of £799 at the Apple Store. Unless you’re absolutely set on having a durable watch that ties in with Apple’s ecosystem, you’re far better off opting for the Fenix 7, just for the amount of money you’ll save alone.

Garmin Fenix 7 is nearly half the price of the Apple Watch Ultra

When it comes to buying a watch that can get you through an ultramarathon and then some, there really isn’t a better option out there than a Garmin. After all, the company has been perfecting its technology for years now, making Garmin’s wearables the best in the game for serious athletes.

Speaking from experience, I’ll occasionally jump from my Apple Watch SE to a Garmin Enduro 2 because of how detailed its fitness tracking features are (not to mention the much better battery life).

For the Garmin Fenix 7 however, we were particularly impressed when it came in for review, receiving a high 4.5-star rating. Our reviewer concluded: “the Fenix 7 is a great outdoor watch with new features that make it a worthwhile upgrade from the Fenix 6, if you value supreme outdoor accuracy. During testing we found the device’s increased number of mapping features work brilliantly. Coupled with its radically improved battery life, this makes the Garmin Fenix 7 an excellent investment for any adventurous hiker, runner or cyclist who regularly venture off the beaten path.”

On the topic of battery life, the Garmin Fenix 7 is able to last for up to 22-days thanks to solar charging, making it ideal for long runs or even a hike, as you won’t have to worry about needing to find a charging port right away.

The Fenix 7 also has some of the best GPS tracking in the game, so if you need detailed insights into which parts of a run are holding you back and where you can improve, this level of information can be a game-changer.

Again, for almost half the price of the Apple Watch Ultra 2, the Garmin Fenix 7 is an absolute steal for anyone wanting to take their fitness tracking to the next level.

This might be the best value Galaxy S24 deal yet

Samsung Galaxy S24 on a chair TR HP
Samsung Galaxy S23 on a chair TR HP

If you’ve been waiting for a price drop on the new Samsung Galaxy S24 then we’ve found the deal for you.

Amazon has just slapped the 256GB Galaxy S24 with a £150 price cut, letting you nab the phone for just £709 as opposed to £859.

While it’s true that Samsung phones tend to see some pretty severe price drops over their lifecycle, I’m surprised to see one of this magnitude so early on from the Galaxy S24’s launch. At that price, it’s significantly cheaper than the iPhone 15 (£799) and you’re getting more storage to boot.

Simply put, for a great, all-round Android device with plenty of software and security support ahead of it, you can’t go wrong with this offer.

Even though there’s an argument to be had that Samsung has been resting on its laurels for quite a few years with regards to its entry-level Galaxy S phones, it doesn’t detract from the fact that the S24 is still a great device to use.

Feeling great in the hand, the Galaxy S24 is a surprisingly compact phone that can easily be used one-handed. The screen is also slightly bigger than its predecessor, jumping from 6.1-inches to 6.2-inches. That might not sound like much but with incredibly thin bezels around the edges, the S24’s display is one of the nicest to look at.

Hardware aside, the big feature of this year’s Galaxy phones is Samsung’s all-new Galaxy AI. This take on generative AI is among the better versions out there currently available for mobile, as it allows you to do some impressive things like generative fill in pictures and live translation during phone calls.

The cameras are more than up to the task too, putting out that classic saturated look that Samsung phones are known for. They’re the type of shots that stun with vibrant colours and a nice amount of detail, making them instant winners on social media.

As a final cherry on top, the S24 is set to receive seven years of software and security updates, making it a great investment for the future, and at such a massively reduced price, you can’t say fairer than that.

Winners and Losers: iPad gets even better while Xbox shutters studios

If you haven’t had a chance to catch up on the biggest stories in tech this week then we’ve got you covered with Winners and Losers.

Even though it was a short working week for folks in the UK, the tech world didn’t slow down in the slightest as things kicked off with Apple’s iPad-centric event which featured the first proper updates for the iPad range since 2022.

There were plenty more tech launches besides Apple’s, including the TicWatch 5 Pro Enduro, the super sleek (and surprisingly small) Pixel 8a, and the futuristic Huawei Watch 4 Pro Space Edition.

You can always check out our news coverage for a deep dive into all that took place but to see which stories stood out above the pack, just keep on reading.

iPad Air 11 inch and 13 inch models

Winner: Apple

It’s no secret that Apple has all but conquered the tablet market with its range of iPads, and that’s unlikely to change any time soon.

The previous crop of iPads was hardly lacking in power or efficiency but Apple has found a way to raise the bar yet again, allowing the new iPad Pro to leapfrog the M3 series of chips completely by launching with the even more powerful M4 processor.

It seems a little absurd to provide a tablet with that level of processing power, but it’ll no doubt cement the iPad Pro 2024 as the most powerful tablet available by a wide margin. The iPad Air 6 won’t be mistaken for a slouch either as that’s being given the M2 chip to play with.

In addition to a new Magic Keyboard as the impressive Apple Pencil Pro, there was also a notable price drop for the iPad 10th Gen, making it a much better buy given that its launch price of £499 had us all raising our eyebrows. Whether you like Apple or not, you can’t deny that the company is crushing the tablet game right now.

Xbox Wireless Controller in Pulse Red

Loser: Xbox

The games industry is very much in a state of flux, as reports of layoffs seem to be a neverending occurrence in the current news cycle. Unfortunately, Xbox has only added more fuel to that fire after shutting down a total of four games studios that came under its wing as part of the Bethesda acquisition some years ago.

Two of the studios in question were responsible for Redfall and the critically acclaimed Hi-Fi Rush which was recently ported to PS5. As part of a company-wide email from the head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, he detailed:

“These changes are grounded in prioritising high-impact titles and further investing in Bethesda’s portfolio of blockbuster games and beloved worlds which you have nurtured over many decades.”

From the email, it seems as though Xbox is pivoting its focus towards top-tier franchises, with less room for smaller indie titles. To make matters worse, there are rumblings that even more closures could be on the way from Xbox, indicating above all that the games industry is in dire need of a rethink when job security is so tenuous.

The iPad 10 is already going for less than Apple's official price cut

ipad 10th gen front
ipad 10th gen front

Apple gave the iPad 10th Gen an official price cut during its iPad event this week, but now it’s already going for less than that.

Originally going for £499, Apple smartly brought the iPad 10th Gen down to £349 earlier this week but right now on Amazon, you can bag the tablet for just £334.97. That’s an unbelievable price cut when you consider what the device would have set you back only this time last week.

I’ve always been incredibly impressed with the base-level iPads (in fact I wrote an oped about this very topic), and the iPad 10 is the Apple tablet that I would recommend to most people.

Unless you work in animation and illustration, you do not need the iPad Pro or even the iPad Air. In pretty much every scenario I’ve used it for, whether it be productivity, writing a book, streaming TV shows and editing the occasional video – the iPad 10 has done the job just fine.

It even features a larger screen than its predecessor at 10.9-inches instead of 10.2-inches. This makes for a better viewing experience overall, and the bezels surrounding the screen are large enough for you to comfortably hold on to the device without obstructing your view.

Again, speaking from personal experience, the iPad really comes into its own on long journeys as it’s perfect for reading through the latest headlines and magazines on Apple News, as well as diving into a handful of episodes of your favourite shows during a flight.

It’s also worth mentioning that if you do have an artistic streak, you can pair certain models of the Apple Pencil with this iPad, letting you indulge in a bit of digital art when the mood strikes you.

There are few devices that I get quite as much use out of as the iPad 10th Gen, so if you fancy getting one for yourself then this price cut just offered up the perfect opportunity to do so.

This 4.5-star smartwatch is now the cheapest Wear OS device by a mile

The Galaxy Watch 4's bright and colourful screen is easy to see in broad daylight

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 has taken a massive tumble in price, making for one of the best smartwatch deals of the year.

You’ll watch to be quick with this one – the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is now going for just £104.99 on Amazon. I absolutely loved the watch when I first reviewed it, giving it a 4.5-star rating, and at this price it’s an absolute no-brainer for anyone wanting to pick up a fully-featured smartwatch on the cheap.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Galaxy Watch 4 initially had a price tag of £249 at launch, so you’re saving well over £100 on what you would have spent only a couple of years ago. Plus, at that aforementioned reduced price, there isn’t anything else on the market that comes close to being this cheap, unless you start looking at lesser-featured fitness trackers.

Even though it’s had a few successors since it first hit the market, the Galaxy Watch 4 is still a great pick largely because it’s been updated to the latest version of Wear OS. This means that you’ll be getting largely the same software experience as what you’ll find on other Wear OS 4-toting wearables.

As you may have already spotted, Samsung hasn’t changed the look of its Galaxy Watch range much either, so you’ll be hard pressed to tell the difference between the Watch 4 and the Watch 6 from a distance.

When diving into the software, the Galaxy Watch 4 gives you access to tons of key apps right on your wrist, including Spotify, Google Maps and Google Wallet. Want to leave your phone at home and listen to music on your watch? No problem. Don’t have time to reach for your phone to make a payment? Just do it on the watch.

Samsung has also built up quite an impressive array of fitness tracking features including reliable heart rate metrics, tons of workouts to track and its exclusive BioActive Sensor which can offer up other bits of information such as your BMI index, which is important to your overall bill of health.

At this price, the Galaxy Watch 4 is an absolute bargain, whether you’re buying for yourself or looking to gift it to someone else.

Giffgaff has just dropped an incredible deal for anyone looking to upgrade to one of the latest-gen iPhones.

Right now you can get a refurbished iPhone 15 in ‘like new’ condition for just £599, a notable £200 cheaper than buying the phone new via the Apple Store. Not only are you saving a hefty amount of money, but Giffgaff’s ‘like new’ handsets also come with a 24-month warranty for added peace of mind.

I’m also slightly gutted that I didn’t wait for this deal to drop as I picked up my iPhone 15 at launch, but even though I paid a higher price for mine, at no point have I regretted my decision.

Moving on from the iPhone 14 (a device that I wasn’t too impressed with), the iPhone 15 feels like a breath of fresh air and exactly the type of update that the base-level iPhone has needed for years.

For starters, having a USB-C port on an iPhone never gets old. Instead of needing to keep a Lightning cable with me at all times, I can now just use the same USB-C cable to top up my phone, iPad and even my headphones.

The iPhone 15 has also been treated to the Dynamic Island which debuted in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Finally doing away with the awful notch, the Dynamic Island is actually quite a handy feature as it can show quick bits of information no matter what app you’re using, including any timers you have set or what music is currently playing.

There’s also the fact that unlike the iPhone 14, the iPhone 15 isn’t using the exact same chipset as the phone that came before it, this time sporting the super fast A16 Bionic processor. Whether you’re jumping between apps or indulging in a spot of gaming, everything runs smoothly.

With the iPhone 15 still being fairly new on the market, the phone will receive software and security updates for quite some time to come, so if you want a future-proof handset at a bargain price then this is deal to go for.

For anyone looking to buy their first MacBook or even upgrade their existing model, we’ve found the deal for you.

Even though the MacBook Air sits at the entry-level of Apple’s MacBook range, the starting prices are rarely ‘affordable’ when compared to the competition. Luckily for consumers, you can now bypass those high price points by quite a bit as the MacBook Air M1 is now selling for just £799.

That’s a far more reasonable price for a laptop, and a significant reduction against the original £999 launch price of the MacBook Air M1. Simply put, you won’t find a better deal right now for an M-series MacBook.

Even though we’re now on the M4 chip following the recent iPad Pro announcement, the M1 chip is still impressive for the amount of proficiency it brought to the table, not to mention some serious battery gains too.

The device is one of very few to receive a full five-star rating here at Trusted Reviews, with Editor Max Parker writing: “You’ll notice the benefits of the M1 instantly. This feels more like an iPad in use than a typical laptop, with the screen bursting to life the second – and I really mean that – you open the lid. Everything you do happens with added zip not experienced with the older MacBook Airs, whether you’re opening apps or even hoarding tabs in Chrome. Speed almost becomes a non-issue because you’re never thinking about it.”

In our testing, we were able to get up to 11-hours of use on a single charge which is handy if you’re working at a cafe and there isn’t a charging port in sight.

It almost goes without saying but the MacOS experience is also incredibly fluid, and with the M1 chip in tow, it’s very easy to get through video and photo editing on the go. Plus, with the MacBook Air being as sleek as it is, you can chuck it into a backpack and barely feel the weight of it.

For great speed, even better battery life and a slim build that makes it super portable, the MacBook Air M1 is a bargain at this price.

Apple’s recent iPad event quietly killed off the iPad 9th Gen and now it’s available at a super cheap price as retailers rid themselves of stock.

If you head on over to Amazon right now then you can bag the 2021 iPad 10.2 for just £299.98, making it the only iPad you can buy new for under £300. Even though the newer iPad 10th Generation recently had a price cut to £349, the software experience between these two tablets is nearly identical, so you aren’t missing out on too much by opting for older tech.

Until recently, I was still sporting the iPad 9th Gen and was constantly impressed by all that it was able to achieve with just an A13 Bionic chip under the hood.

For example, you can absolutely get away with a bit of video editing in LumaFusion, and whenever I did dive into a spot of gaming, the iPad 9th Gen didn’t give me any issues.

At its most basic level however, the device’s 10.2-inch display makes it brilliantly suited for watching films and TV shows, as well as reading digital magazines and news articles. In this context, the iPad 9th Gen can be quite a handy travel companion, particularly on long flights.

You won’t even have to worry about battery life either as you can get up to 10-hours of use from a single charge, which is more than enough to get you through a day.

Where the iPad 9th Gen really comes into its own however is when you pair it with a keyboard or even the first gen Apple Pencil. With the former, the iPad becomes a great device for productivity on the go, while the latter gives you the chance to indulge in digital drawing or notetaking.

The only big caveat to the iPad 9th Gen is that it features a Lightning port instead of the USB-C standard that was adopted by its successor, but if you still use other products that utilise Lightning cables then this shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

For a fully-featured tablet that doesn’t break the bank, you won’t find a better deal than this iPad 9th Gen price cut. Just make sure to nab it before it’s out of stock and the tablet is gone for good.

Apple’s best announcement had nothing to do with the iPad Pro

keyboard ipad 10th gen
keyboard ipad 10th gen

OPINION: Even though plenty of new products and features were unveiled during Apple’s Let Loose event, it was clear that the company wanted to focus on the M4-toting iPad Pro. Given just how unbelievably powerful the device will be, this is fair, but I think that for many people the best news of the night was found elsewhere.

It was a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ announcement but towards the end of the event, Apple unveiled a sizeable price drop for the standard iPad 10th Gen, bringing the price down from £499/$449 to just £349/$349. As someone who uses the iPad 10 daily, I can safely say that this is a seriously good deal.

ipad 10th gen front

For starters, the iPad 10 should never have launched with its price, being a notable uptick on its predecessor and much closer in price to the iPad Air. Seeing Apple rectify this is great, but now that it has a lower price in tow, the iPad 10 is easily the one that most people should get.

It’s all too easy to be enamoured by the processing chops of the iPad Air and iPad Pro, but these devices are designed for a very niche crowd that work in industries like animation or content creation. For everyone else, you’d struggle to find something that the iPad 10 can’t do.

With the humble A14 Bionic chip in tow, my iPad 10 has allowed me to edit videos in LumaFusion, practice the piano in Rocksmith Plus and, courtesy of Scrivener, finish my first book (agents, hit me up).

Plenty of power

For these tasks and more, the iPad 10 has been my go-to device, and at no point have I hit a wall that could have been fixed by a more powerful iPad. With that in mind, I would implore those currently shopping for a new iPad to be unperturbed by Apple’s FOMO marketing – the company has made a great, affordable tablet that leaves you wanting for very little.

Plus, with the £250/$250 difference between the iPad 10 and the new iPad Air, you always put the money saved towards accessories like the Apple Pencil, or an Apple Watch SE. You can’t say fairer than that.

If you’ve never used an Amazon Echo device though then you might be wondering what all the fuss is about. Take it from someone who has the previous model – the Echo Dot is a great bit of smart home kit.

At its most basic level, the Echo Dot can be used as a speaker to play music, radio and podcasts, either via your phone or by asking Amazon’s smart assistant, Alexa.

When the Echo Dot is connected to all of your smart home devices however, this is where the device really comes into its own. Just by asking Alexa to carry out certain commands, you can switch off your lights, turn on the TV or even get the kettle to boil.

If you’re remotely interested in smart home automation then it’s essential to have a device like the Echo Dot to help you interact with it all. Alternatively, you can also just use the Echo Dot as your bedside alarm, ready to play your favourite get-out-of-bed song.

There’s no one way to use the Echo Dot and that’s part of its charm. It’s incredibly accessible but it can be used as part of a larger smart home set-up – it’s entirely up to you how you use it.

For just £29.99, even as a small speaker to play music around your home, you can’t go wrong with this swift Echo Dot price cut.

Using the Pixel 8 as a reference point, it’s surprising just how few compromises Google has made here in developing a more affordable handset.

For starters, both phones pack 1080p OLED displays with a high peak brightness of 1400 nits. There’s also a refresh rate of up to 120Hz so not only will apps and games look great, but they’ll run smoothly in operation.

The only obvious difference is that the Pixel 8a is a little smaller than the Pixel 8, with a screen size of 6.1-inches, which may be good news to those who miss the days of smaller phones.

Quite surprisingly, the Pixel 8a’s main camera actually has a higher megapixel count of 64MP (50MP on the Pixel 8), and with Google’s outstanding computational processing, there’s every expectation that the Pixel 8a should excel in this area.

Plus, it’s always worth mentioning just how much of a joy stock Android is to use. Google’s clean take on the Android operating system is the closest experience to iOS as I’ve found on Android with stylish widgets, plenty of options for customisation and no bloatware in sight.

If you’re thinking that the Pixel 8a is the affordable upgrade you’ve been waiting for then this 100GB offer is easily the best way to nab it.

Apple just launched the strangest pricing strategy I’ve ever seen

(OPINION) Apple’s latest event brought a ton of new products including multiple sized iPad Airs, M4 toting iPad Pros and even a pro-level upgrade for the iPad’s trusty stylus, the Apple Pencil. Known as the Apple Pencil Pro, this new device is already breaking my brain.

From first impressions, the Apple Pencil Pro definitely seems like quite an impressive device. On top of familiar features that we’ve come to appreciate from Apple’s iPad accessory, the Apple Pencil Pro now features an all-new squeeze button, a gyroscope for recognising rotation, haptic feedback and even Find My support (great news for anyone who’s lost of one of these things in the past).

As far as accessories go, that’s quite a solid amount of upgrades and I have no doubt that digital artists are already lining up to put down a pre-order for the Apple Pencil Pro, and you might be wondering exactly how much more these features will set you back.

Here’s the thing, the Apple Pencil Pro and the Apple Pencil 2 are the same price.

Apple Pencil Pro pricing
Here’s what I’ve been staring at on the Apple Store

I’ve now rewatched the pricing portion of Apple’s event multiple times and refreshed the Apple Store plenty just to double check that I’m not missing something but so far as I can tell, Apple has decided to lump the Apple Pencil Pro with the same £129/$129 price tag as the lesser powered Apple Pencil 2.

On the one hand, this is definitely a rare win where consumers are concerned, and it does offer up something of an obvious winner when pitching the two devices against one another, but it does beg the question: what is Apple’s strategy here?

After all, Apple is known for being a luxury brand and if you want to opt for more storage or even a different style of chassis, the company has been more than ready to charge you quite a bit extra for the pleasure.

There was no mention during the presentation about sunsetting the Apple Pencil 2 or even bringing the price down to reflect the cost of the Apple Pencil Pro, so again I have to ask, what is Apple trying to do here?

It’s not the type of company to overlook such an obvious oddity, so if there is some kind of plan behind it all then I’d love to know, otherwise I’ll be stuck here refreshing my browser until Tim Cook himself tells me that it’s not a mistake.

Apple Pencil Pro vs Apple Pencil 2: You won’t believe the price difference

Apple just pulled back the curtain on the latest stylus for the iPad range, the Apple Pencil Pro. Here’s how it compares to the previous flagship pick.

Apple’s May event has now come and gone and while it was certainly shorter than the iPhone/Apple Watch showcase that the company tends to air in September, it was by no means bereft of new things to talk about. Quite the contrary.

In addition to bringing a 2024 update to the iPad Air, now available in not one but two sizes, the company also brought a mammoth update to the iPad Pros. Both size options now feature an OLED display, a landscape centred front-camera and above all, an M4 chip under the hood.

That’s a lot to digest but Apple made sure to point out that one of the best ways to get the most out of these new devices (particularly the iPad Pro) is to pair it with the new Apple Pencil Pro, so if you’re wondering whether or not you should also add the stylus to your online basket then here’s all you need to know about how it compares to the Apple Pencil 2.

There’s a new, touch sensitive button

The first thing to be shown off on the Apple Pencil Pro is a new section just before the Pencil’s tip that can be squeezed between your thumb and index finger.

In Apple’s demo, a single squeeze brought up a mini toolkit of options wherein you can quickly change between different colours and brush types without having to dive into a separate menu. This alone feels like it could streamline the drawing process by quite a bit, to the point where you start to wonder how previous Apple Pencils got on without it.

Apple Pencil Pro Specs

Twists and turns are now registered

In addition to the squeeze button, the Apple Pencil Pro can now also register when it’s being rotated in your hand thanks to a new built-in gyroscope. Apple showed how a single twist can be used to change the thickness of a brush stroke in real time, or even the shape of your brush.

Again, much like the toolkit that appears when you squeeze the Pencil Pro, Apple seems to be focusing on streamlining the drawing process by giving users more control from the Pencil itself.

Haptic feedback makes an appearance

Thanks to a motor that now sits inside the Apple Pencil Pro, it’ll be possible for users to feel Haptic Feedback as they interact with it. This probably isn’t as much of a game-changing feature as what’s been mentioned so far, but it will certainly help with knowing when interactions have been registered.

Apple Pencil Pro

Apple Pencil Pro finally supports Find my

Easily a must-have upgrade for anyone who’s previously lost an Apple Pencil, the Apple Pencil Pro now supports Find My. There was no mention of the Pencil Pro using Apple’s W1 chip which sits inside the Apple AirTag and iPhone 15 range, so you won’t have the same level of tracking precision but it’ll definitely go a long way towards preventing any future mishaps.

Strangely, they’re the same price

One has to wonder if Apple will slowly sunset the Apple Pencil 2 or if the stylus is set for a price drop in the near future because right now, at the time of publishing, the Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil 2 have the same RRP of £129/$129.

While we won’t for sure exactly how well the Apple Pencil Pro performs until we get it in for testing, it does seem as if it’ll be the obvious choice for most people, particularly given that it’s coming to the table with far more features on offer than the Apple Pencil 2.

3 things I want from the Apple Watch 10 (and something I don’t)

apple watch walkie-talkie step 1

OPINION: With its tenth iteration on the horizon, 2024 could end up being one of the biggest years for the Apple Watch yet.

As great as the Apple Watch has been for setting the standard on the smartwatch market, there’s no denying that the range hasn’t changed much in the last couple of years.

While Samsung moved towards a stylish, more sports-focused design from the Galaxy Watch 4 onwards and Google has adopted an almost pebble-like aesthetic in the Pixel Watch, Apple’s wearables have maintained the same look for almost a decade.

Well, if even a handful of rumours turn out to be true then the Apple Watch 10 (or the Apple Watch X) could bring about the design overhaul that’s desperately needed. While we wait to see if this speculation comes to fruition, I have a few more wishlist items that would make the Apple Watch 10 one of the best smartwatches yet (and one potential mistake that could hurt it).

We need custom watch faces

One of the best things the Apple Watch has going for it is the premium array of watch faces that Apple has designed from scratch. Whether it’s the recent Snoopy pick which brings the beloved character to life with great animations, or the timelapses of various cities worldwide, Apple has built up quite the collection over the years – but it hasn’t left much room for user expression.

Apple has never been a company to give users the complete freedom to customise things to their exact liking, but even if the watch face library was opened up a bit to feature designs created by watch brands like Casio or Seiko, it would go a long way towards allowing the Apple Watch to work better as a fashion accessory.

Apple Watch Series 9 on table

It’s time for an Apple Health overhaul

The simplicity of Apple’s fitness tracking software has always been one of the Apple Watch’s greatest strengths, but having spent enough time testing wearables from the likes of Garmin and Fitbit, it’s become clear that Apple doesn’t do the best job in actually breaking down information in a meaningful way.

For instance, cardio recovery and sleep tracking stats are just thrown at the user with very little explanation as to what it all means. By comparison, my trusty Whoop Strap 4.0 lets me know if I’ve been overtraining, if it’s time for a rest day, or the amount of genuine sleep I was able to get from the total time I spent in bed.

These are the breakdowns that make a huge difference and actually allow users to make actionable changes as a result. If I could get that information from my Apple Watch, it could be a game changer.

The battery situation has to change

Any fellow Apple Watch users will know exactly what I’m talking about here, and I’m still in partial disbelief over the fact that the abysmal battery life of these devices still hasn’t been addressed.

Apple’s been quoting the 18-hour battery life of the Watch for so long now that it feels almost like a moot point to even mention it, but against battery champions like the TicWatch Pro 5 and the OnePlus Watch 2, this reality of one-day per charge is starting to feel ridiculous.

One of the benefits of a smartwatch is that it can act as a backup device for when your phone runs out of battery, thanks to NFC payments and messaging, but that concept doesn’t really work if it barely outlives your smartphone.

Please Apple, don’t change the watch band design

One of the rumours I’ve seen is that in order to bring about battery gains for the Apple Watch 10, it could be using all-new watch straps that take up less space on the chassis itself, allowing for a larger battery cell.

While the allure of a longer battery life might sound like a tempting trade-off, it would be a great shame if every compatible watch band until now was suddenly made redundant.

I’m partially saying this because I’ve built up a nice collection of Apple Watch bands that I’d like to continue using, but there’s also a bigger problem at play. Apple has been making strides in reducing its e-waste, whether that be in moving to carbon neutral designs or taking charging bricks out of the box, but if it were to suddenly make countless compatible accessories useless then it would feel like an unnecessary betrayal of all the environmentally conscious work the company has put in thus far.

Best Nintendo Switch Console 2024: Which one should you buy?

Best Switch List 2022

Looking to pick up your very first Nintendo Switch or trade in your current model for a different one? Here’s all your need to know.

Even though its days of being the new console on the block have long since passed, the Nintendo Switch has amassed a seriously impressive array of games in the time since it first debuted, way back in 2017.

Recent hits like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, as well as bonafide classics like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, are still well worth diving into, and if you’re simply interesting in knowing which titles should be added to your library then check out our rundown of the best Nintendo Switch games.

Until the long-awaited Switch 2 becomes a reality, there are currently three Nintendo Switch consoles to choose from: the original Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch Lite and the most recent (and most expensive) option, the Nintendo Switch OLED.

All of these models have unique features that make them better suited to different budgets and use cases, so if you’re not sure over which one is best for you then fear not – we’ve tested them all.

If you’re looking for something non-Nintendo in the gaming space then make sure to check out our guide for the best games consoles and best gaming laptops.

Best Nintendo Switch Console At A Glance:

How we test

Learn more about how we test game consoles

Every game console we review goes through a series of uniform checks designed to gauge key things including build quality and performance.

We’ll play multiple games on the hardware while comparing the performance to rival consoles (and predecessors) to see whether it’s worth the investment.

We’ll also evaluate the software, as well as the line-up of games when deciding on a final score.

Nintendo Switch OLED

Nintendo Switch OLED

The best screen on a Switch
rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star

Pros

  • OLED screen offers a huge upgrade
  • Bigger screen, but still very portable
  • Stand is a lot sturdier now
  • Increased storage capacity

Cons

  • No performance upgrade
  • No substantial upgrades for docked mode

The Nintendo Switch OLED is the latest iteration of the console, with the main attraction being the new OLED panel. The screen’s colours on the latest Switch look more vivid and natural, enhancing the visual quality of every single game without any compromises to the performance. Our review of Metroid Dread notes how amazing this game looks with the OLED panel, with colours looking brighter and bolder and Samus’ suit seemingly popping out of the display.

The new Switch OLED also has a sturdier stand for propping up on a table, improved speakers and a slightly larger screen, ensuring it offers the absolute best experience for portable gaming.

It is the most expensive console of the bunch however, and unfortunately there aren’t any performance upgrades over the original Nintendo Switch, with the exception of built-in Ethernet port on the dock to give you a more stable connection when playing online.

Even with those minor gripes, the Switch OLED is still the go-to pick for many of the Trusted Reviews team as it shows off Switch games in their best possible light. Once you’ve seen Hyrule or the Mushroom Kingdom on an OLED screen, there’s just no going back.

Pros

  • Gaming whenever, wherever you want

  • Some truly incredible games

Cons

  • Overpriced accessories
  • Expensive games

The console that started it all, the first Nintendo Switch launched back in 2017, but it’s still one of the best gaming consoles out there. Its versatile design allows owners to use it as both a portable and a home console when connected to a TV via the bundled dock.

The original Switch doesn’t have any standout features over the new Switch OLED, with an identical game catalogue and a similar design, albeit slightly smaller and lighter. But the original Switch is generally £50/$50 cheaper than its OLED counterpart, arguably making it the best value option – especially if you end up using it as a home console more than a portable device since the OLED screen won’t make a difference in this use case.

It’s unfortunate that the GPU hasn’t been updated since launch, which means the console relies heavily on the cloud to play modern third-party games and shows the console is starting to show its age. But no other Switch offers a better performance right now, so you’d have to opt for something like the Steam Deck instead if that’s a major issue.

But thanks to the massive gaming library and some highly anticipated upcoming titles, like Tears of the Kingdom, the Switch will remain a good option for years to come. With a middle-of-the-road price compared to its other variations and such intuitive controls thanks to the Joy-Con controllers, this is the best Switch for the majority of gamers.

Nintendo Switch Lite

Nintendo Switch Lite

The best Switch for kids
rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star rating-star

Pros

  • Design is robust, attractive and easy to use
  • Already boasts a fantastic library of games
  • Increased battery life compared to the base model

Cons

  • Nature of console means certain games are no longer supported
  • Local multiplayer is far harder to achieve without docking

Finally, we come to the cheapest option for anyone wanting to game on the go. The Nintendo Switch Lite‘s best qualities are its portability and low price when compared to its Switch siblings.

The library of Switch games available for the Lite is virtually the same as the Switch and Switch OLED, meaning that you can still experience the latest Zelda adventure and race your troubles away in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The only exceptions are games that require motion control, such as Nintendo Switch Sports, as the controllers are fused to the side of the screen and so can’t be used like Wii remotes.

You also can’t dock the Switch Lite and output its display to your TV, meaning you can only experience your adventures on the small screen, and it will be harder to play multiplayer games like Super Smash Bros Ultimate with friends in the same room.

But if you’re mostly looking to use your console as a portable device, and don’t mind the adorably dinky size, the Switch Lite is a fantastic option since it boasts an affordable price and supports most of the same games.

Best Wear OS Smartwatch 2024: The top wearables for Android users

Looking for a new smartwatch to pair with your Android phone? These are the best Wear OS watches we’ve tested.

For the longest time, the Wear OS market was in a dismal state. Even though a few diehard supporters such as Fossil and TicWatch helped to keep the sector topped up with new devices, it all paled in comparison to the wearable experience that Apple users could enjoy with one of the best Apple Watches. In 2024 however, these dark days are long gone in the rear-view mirror.

With Google having finally gotten in on the action and Samsung ditching its own Tizen software in favour of Wear OS, this once desolate sector is now thriving with plenty of great options for Android users to choose from – and we should know, we’ve tested them.

After countless reviews and time spent putting the latest Wear OS watches to the test, this list has put those expertise to good use to let you know exactly which options are worth buying. If you want more of an overview of the current wearable market then be sure to check out our list for the best smartwatch, or for those who want a fitness-first device, our best running watch and best fitness tracker guides have you covered.

How we test

Find out how we test Wear OS smartwatches

Every smartwatch we test is used by the reviewer for at least a week, or longer if the battery life lasts beyond that point or we need more time to trial its features.

During testing, we will check it for key metrics, including app support, usability and battery life. If the device offers fitness, location or health tracking features, we will also test these for accuracy and reliability.

For distance tracking, we record how accurately the device recorded runs on tracks we know the length of. We also record how much battery is lost using things like in-built or connected GPS per hour. To check heart rate accuracy, we compared the results recorded on the wearable to those of a dedicated HRM strap.

After recording the data, we then pair it with our general experience using the wearable day-to-day, letting you know if it’s comfortable to wear or if we encountered unexpected bugs over the review period.

Mobvoi has been one of the staunchest supporters of Wear OS, even when Google was supplying the software with the bare minimum in terms of updates. While the company’s devices have been hit and miss in terms of quality, its experience in the market finally came to fruition with the excellent TicWatch Pro 5.

On top of touting Wear OS 3 at launch and all of the software benefits that come with it, the TicWatch Pro 5 is still an absolute beast where battery life is concerned. Thanks to the low-power secondary FSTN display at sits atop of the main screen, you can expect up to five days of use on a single charge.

That amount of longevity absolutely destroys most smartwatches, and the secondary display is a feature that we wish was adopted by more competitors. Not only is it easier to read in direct sunlight, but the coloured backlight can quickly let you know of your current heart rate zone during a workout. Features like these make the TicWatch Pro 5 one of the most well-rounded smartwatches on the market, and not just amongst its Wear OS peers.

While it’s no secret that OnePlus’ foray into the world of wearable tech was something of a misfire, the company’s eventual successor managed to right every wrong of the original OnePlus Watch.

For starters, the OnePlus Watch 2 now supports Wear OS for true smartwatch functionality, but it can also dive into a low-power mode that cuts back on some features but in return, offers up a whopping 12-days of use. You may be waiting for a caveat here, but the OnePlus Watch 2’s ‘power save mode’ is one of the better ones we’ve seen.

For instance, TicWatch uses its ‘essential mode’ to elongate battery life, but that only really keeps the TicWatch Pro 5’s secondary display running. By comparison, OnePlus’ alternative still lets you track workouts, control music and check the weather. It’s handy to have for those moments when you’re far away from a charger as you won’t have to sacrifice much in return for the longer battery life.

Even though timepieces are supposed to have an element of fashion about them, not every company actually follows through on that front (we’re looking at you Mobvoi). Luckily you’re not completely out of options on this front, particularly as Google has put together one of the most eye-catching smartwatches of the current crop.

The Pixel Watch 2 takes on a pebble-like design that feels almost uniform the entire way around, also making it difficult to see where the screen ends and the chassis begins. It’s quite an impressive bit of engineering that’s capped off by a central rotating crown and a very well hidden push button.

Much like the Apple Watch, the magnets that connect watch bands to the Pixel Watch 2 sit inside the chassis, making it seem as if the bands are an extension of the watch itself. It would be nice if Google released a slightly larger version of the Pixel Watch 2 (its 41mm casing is smaller than most smartwatches) but it’s only a minor gripe on what is undeniably a great looking device.

While there’s nothing stopping you from pairing any of the watches on this list with your Samsung phone, there’s only one option that gives the most seamless experience possible for users and that’s the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6.

The Watch 6 gives you quick access to some of the key apps on your Samsung phone, including the Bixby assistant and your camera app – perfect for lining up a shot. Similarly, there are several fitness features on the Watch 6 that are only available if you pair with a Samsung device, so in order to get the most out of the watch, Samsung wants you to go all in on its own ecosystem.

Much like the TicWatch Pro 5’s secondary display, the Galaxy Watch 6 has a unique feature of its own in a digital rotating bezel which allows you to scroll through menus simply by swiping around the outside of the display. It’s a simple concept but it works incredibly well, and it saves you adding any annoying smudges to the display during a workout.

Speaking as someone who upgraded a few years back to an upright Shark vacuum, although it wasn’t this particular model I’ve been so impressed with the performance that Shark has brought to the table that I haven’t looked back.

For starters, this model packs powerful cleaning suction, alongside the ability to swap between a carpet and hard floor mode, adjusting the suction level accordingly. There are also LED lights on the front of the vacuum that make it easier to see the full scope of your floors, particularly in darker areas like underneath your bed.

If you need to clean smaller areas where a traditional vacuum simply wouldn’t fit then you’ll absolutely love the ‘Lift-Away’ feature which lets you disconnect the cylinder from the main apparatus so that you can carry it with you. This is especially handy when cleaning any stairs as you’ll be able to ascend and descend with ease.

Where this particular model comes into its own is with its included ‘Pet Tool’, which is designed to pick up pet hair from areas where it can get trapped, like carpets and sofas.

You can’t really go wrong with a Shark vacuum, but when you can get one for such a reduced price it’s definitely the ideal time to upgrade.

Despite its smaller stature and cheaper price, the Series S is more than capable of running top-tier next-gen titles like Starfield, Diablo IV and Alan Wake 2. Because the Series S is a digital only console however, it pairs perfectly with a Game Pass subscription.

As new games are constantly being added to the Game Pass library, you’ll never be left be left wanting for something to play, with recent additions including the colourful soulslike, Another Crab’s Treasure, and the big-budget sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

When you’re ready to wind down after a spot of gaming, the Series S also comes into its own as a streaming device with access to all of the major services including Netflix, Disney Plus and BBC iPlayer.

For all that the Series S is capable of, the console was already a steal but at this reduced price, there’s never been a better time to snap it up.
